Just a couple comments.

Hi guys!

I have been getting TONS of emails lately about what kind of paint I use, latex or oil based. I do use both since I don't have a choice when it comes to buying strictly mistinted paint. The color is usually my main concern. But please be sure to read the instructions on your paint gun manuals (if that's how you paint) so that you won't use anything harmful to your guns. But with proper cleaning and thinning I think most paints shouldn't cause any issues.

The second part of this post is to respond to a comment I received earlier today:

"I really love this blog for the eye candy, but have noticed a lack of how to's. It's kind of getting old watching you create all these things without tips or advise. It starting to feel like you are bragging. I mean in this post you could have showed us how to achieve just a "hint" of something. You once answered someones question asking what colors you use. You responded by saying you just mix colors. I think if you where really trying to be helpful you could have said the two colors you like to mix the most. YOu don't have to share all your secrets, but i think to help this blog not feel so stingy you could give away some. My husband is a carpenter, so furtunatly for me I can just have him look at your blog and tell me exactly what it is I need to do. Some are not as fortunate."

Ouch, that one hurt!
I am truly sorry if anyone feels that I am stingy or unhelpful, because bragging is far from being my intention. Whenever I work on new projects I try and be as helpful as possible, and I guess I just assumed that by now you wouldn't want a complete play by play on every piece of furniture. There are no secret tricks that I am hiding, no special colors I use ( I promise each and every can of paint I own lacks a color name and came from the $5 pile), and as I mention in my FAQ section I really and truly wing it, following a picture in my head, not always sure how it will turn out or how to get there.
As I have mentioned previously, I am hard at work on an e-book that I am excited to share soon. It will cover the basics along with several tips I have learned the hard way through trial and error. But mainly I am hoping that it will be useful as a way for readers to build confidence in their projects because that is usually the biggest stepping stone. I am a teensy bit concerned that it might be a little bit of a let down because for some of you, because there really isn't any magic just a lot of paint and a little sand paper. But I will look forward to hopefully removing some of the mystery with that.

All of your lovely, warm, heartfelt comments are always so appreciated and I really try to respond to emails and questions as time allows (which it rarely does these days). So please accept another apology on my behalf if you have been disappointed with the lack of knowledge I have shared, or if you haven't seen a response. I started this blog as a diary and resource to store my ideas, memories and projects and while it has evolved over time to include many of my adventures in furniture painting the original intention was not to become a fountain of knowledge (because lord knows I don't know much!). If it weren't for your supportive words, even when the projects weren't all that great or fabulous, I probably wouldn't be doing what I love and I cannot thank you enough for that~

Ciao dolls,

ignore that bitchy commenter, you have shared the basics in the FAQs and a lot of the fun of your blog is seeing what amazing items of furniture you salvage and how you incorporate them into your home and accessorize them.

oh that comment was way out of bounds if you ask me :)

I never thought of as anything less than sweet and talented :)

I work the way you do as well... winging it... I have so many cans of paint and I just whip something together most of the time... unless I decide I need alot. In which case I tell the paint-mixer at the store EXACTLY what tints to put in... ha ha I always get a funny look, like they are saying "are you sure you know what you ask now?!"... *giggle* Just keep up the great work Erin!! !

Wow, Holly, I'm sorry to hear this. Seriously, girl, you have no need to apologize. You don't owe us anything. I myself, am grateful for all the beautiful eye candy and inspiration you provide on your blog.

I am pretty sure your goal with this blog was not to teach people how to do what you do, and this should not be expected. You are a sweet girl with amazing talent and I am just happy to see what you come up with next! Thank you for the inspiration and keep it up. I love your blog (as is).

hugs, Christine

People are so rude sometimes. Seriously - what?!!! I couldn't believe that comment. "Stingy" is the last word that comes to the mind when reading your blog. I think you do a great job of sharing new, beautiful pieces, and you describe your methods just the right amount.

Anyway...to end on a positive note...thank you for your great blog! I love reading. :)

Sorry that comment hurt so much Holly! I really love your blog and you are a great resource for me to get inspiration from. I understand where that lady is coming from though, and perhaps a little video blog of you distressing something or mixing paint or whatever would help those of us out there that are a little afraid of what to do. But thanks again for all of your wonderful posts!

Remodelaholic said...

I have been reading your blog for months and do not feel that you are bragging or stingy in any way. The way you show your pieces and how you have painted them gives me tons of inspiration.

I think that readers may underestimate the time it takes to be a mom, run a large blog like this, all while building your business. Don't take it to heart! Do what you can, what makes you happy and that is all you should do.

Jack and Cassie said...

Honestly, I think that comment was out of line and a little ridiculous. This is your business and plenty of people with blogs post about their business. I wouldn't think a designer of a clothing store was showing off if she posted pictures of her dresses. You've been remarkably generous with your knowledge . . . I think the person who posted that is just bitter.

Anonymous said...

That was a nice response. Calm, cool and collected, as the Brady's would say.(Brady Bunch)

I wing everything I do and I never do the same thing twice! so it would be hard for me to even give a how to......and what you intend and what your readers want you to project can sometimes be hard. Anyhoo thus is blogland, and being store owner.

ourthreesons said...

Maybe the person who left the comment hasn't read your FAQ section? I don't know. I can't say I feel the same way at all. I find your befores/afters so inspirational just on their own.

L.Duncan@Home23DuncanBoys said...

We can't please everyone, huh? I try to do as many "how to" posts as I can. The thing with your post is that you've shown us what you use to paint your furniture and you've told us the steps. Plus you've told us how long it takes to finish. AND you've told us that you buy mistints. I love your afters! Probably because I know how to achieve the look already so I'm more excited to see the afters! Plus I like coming to see how Wren is doing and what she's been up to!

I have a giveaway going on if you'd like to enter for a 1 year subscription to Canadian House and Home! Have a great day Holly!

You really should stop bragging about people emailing you about bragging.

HA!

(Can't believe someone actually took the time to send you that! I mean, really?)

Love the blog. Don't go changin'.

Holly I completely agree with what you wrote. There are a million how to's out there for anyone with the willingness to look a little. I love your blog because you don't belabor the point--you just show us what things can look like once you catch the vision. Boo to people being so negative. I love your blog and your cheery willingness to share your projects. (what kind of secret can there be to sandpaper and paint people??)

Stephanie said...

Well Holly, you made me realize that maybe getting just one or two comments is a good thing for my blog! Sometimes I think I am just blabbing and showing things to no one but myself. After reading that comment you got, I am thinking it is a good thing to be a lonely blogger! Ouch, people can be so mean! I just love your site, love what ever ideas and things you can show us, and your store is fab.I mean come on, it isn't like we are paying to see click on your site, it is free. People!

Thanks for the love ladies~ You turned my frown upside down!

I don't recall reading a mission statement any where in this blog that states its purpose as a how-to guide. That said, you do posts that share the "process", FAQ's, and tips from time to time which I enjoy & learn from. There are some basics to painting and renovating, but it's partly an art too. It's not clear that the referenced commenter realizes this and there was no need for them to make it personal. Keep up the good work. The chest posted earlier was gorgeous- great inspiration.

Andrea said...

so sorry about that. there are so many of us out there that love your blog and your sweet personality. :)

Holly, I totally feel for you! Though I am sure I would feel exactly as you do if I were in your shoes and got that kind of email, I hope you realize that it is not at all about "You" in any real way. Anyone who feels that way is projecting what "they think you should do" onto your life which is an unfair and inaccurate burden on you. You don't owe anyone any kind of information. You could also choose to simply create a gallery of work if you like. OR, you could not blog at all, which would be sad for many, many people, including myself, who love the beautiful pieces you create.

Please trust your gut and spirit and do the best you can and try not to let others personal expectations get in the way of what you do best.

I'm here for you if you ever need an ear!

OMG. What a hater!!!

Holly, you are my personal inspiration for what I do today, and I am smart enough to figure out what you do that looks so good, I don't need a how-to!! Ugh that lady was lame!

You are amazing, ignore her.

Wow! I can't believe you really received a comment like that. I absolutely love this blog. Your FAQ section is very helpful, and your work has even inspired a furniture re-do for my dining room (will share when complete). So, ignore the "mean girl", and keep showing us that eye candy! I love it!!!

Some people are just jerks and that is what that wenchy little commenter is. Your blog is grand!

Ginny said...

I think that it stinks that a couple of grouchy people can ruin it for all of the nice people who love to look at blogs for inspiration. It's not your job (because we all know that blogging really doesn't pay more than pennies an hour) to teach us with each post. Thanks for taking the time to make the blogging world a bit more beautiful. I keep thinking about how there are only a handful of people in this world who are offended by the use of Merry Christmas-- but now in school they can only do Happy Holiday songs and crafts. I say don't let a few grouchy people stop you from inspiring the hundreds upon hundreds of people who love your blog :)

Unknown said...

Thanks so much Jess!

I ain't goin nowhere! It would take a lot more for me to even consider giving up blogging!!! But I really want people to enjoy reading and really want to know if people aren't happy, just maybe in slightly sweeter words, afterall, I am a wimp at heart LOL.

Unknown said...

I love seeing your projects! I don't own a paint sprayer, probably never will own one, but I have painted a few pieces and LOVE looking at your stuff for inspiration. Not for the 'recipe', but for encouragement and inspiration. I've also brought several people by your blog to see how they can inexpensively fix up a piece or two of their own. Thanks for that. You don't owe me anything. I visit because I love what I see (and the cute little girl makes me smile too.)

I sew projects for our home, and as another commenter noted, I too
usually 'wing it'. To give detailed how-to's probably wouldn't work and I just wouldn't have the time for it. I was at the library today and they had huge sections of 'how to' books on sewing and decorative painting for the home.

Thanks for posting what you do, I love it and I'll be back.

Sounds like a little jealousy? The only way you could consider it "bragging" is if you're jealous that you can't get the same result. I appreciate your how-to's, FAQ section, and all your pictures. I love your blog - Don't change a thing!

Ha... I just left a comment over on the other post before I read this one. Anyways, it appears there are plenty of us that like this blog as it is! Your great photos of original work and the occasional cute baby shot is about as good as it gets as far as I am concerned!

Little Green Table said...

Holly,
While I've religiously checked out all your adventures, never before did I feel the need to post a comment. I think you know how I feel about your work - I just don't have any more pieces that need refinishing!

Then I read todays blog and felt I had to write something. Mrs Pissy Pants owes you a huge apology - and I'd like to see her post it here. Obviously, she has not bothered to check out your site fully since you manage to share all your "secrets" whereever possible.

You have inspired me to attempt a project and THAT really says alot!

Keep your face to the sun, girl.

Anonymous said...

I follow your blog faithfully yet hardly ever comment, because all I'd be saying over and over would be "omigosh I love this!!" and that would get kind of old after a while I think...
However, just wanted to let you know today that I love your blog as it is. You've really inspired me and since I've started reading it, I've bought several pots of mistints (something I'd have been hesitant about before) and painted several pieces of furniture. I also took sandpaper to my freshly painted furniture - something that kind of scared me to be honest! Your example got me through it though :). So thanks so much for providing so much inspiration! The reason I visit is for the eye candy that your projects are and your always inspiring energy, oh and cute pics of Wren of course!
And yes, I agree that you don't owe anything anyone and the FAQ's are a great resource for anyone that's looking to learn. That said, I am looking forward to your e-book as well!

much love xo jadyn

Yea, braggy would be the last word to describe you, I think you seem very sweet! And your work isn't an exact recipe, I totally understand where you are coming from. I love your before's and after's just for the sheer value of "this xx shape will look fab when white, etc".

Just make sure everyone knows not to MIX latex and oil. I wish I could paint more with oil, I love it. But with no garage and 3 kids, makes it a little difficult with dry time and fumes.

You do great work. Lots of love from cow town.

I am with everyone else and agree you should continue to do your blog the way that you want. I don't feel that we blog to explain every thing we do step-by-step.
No one expects that at all, or at least the bloggers that I know.

Tell that girl to SUCK IT! This is YOUR blog, a diary like you said, you are just kindly ALLOWING everyone else to read it.

You don't have to post ANY how to's if you don't want. They can stop reading it if they're bored. Or better yet, not read it at all. She's just angry she can't be as awesome as you.

People don't realize that there isn't a "formula" for mixing paint or refinishing things. What are you supposed to do, post a video of you pouring a little paint into a can and mixing it up? "Uh... so I pour for a couple seconds... grab a stir stick... and then add more till I like it?" Or one of you sanding the corner of a piece for 3 seconds? "Tada!!! And that's how the magic happens."

I never do how to posts because frankly, I had to figure it out on my own, use your brain people!

Sorry for my rant, you really are awesome, I've used more than one of your ideas in my own house.

Holly, maybe this person needs to be reminded that this is YOUR blog, and as such it's your choice as to what you write about, and how much or little you decide to share. Either way, you don't owe anybody anything at all, and there are plenty of 'how-to' blogs out there if that's what they're looking for. Personally, I think it's really rude to expect you to share a blow-by-blow description of how you refinish your pieces - after all, your trade secrets are yours and no-one elses. Those of us who've read your blog for a while realise you're in no way trying to brag, and that you're just sharing your beautiful makeovers with us. So don't apologise, stay just as you are and don't be disheartened by nasty comments like these. I for one love your blog just as it is, so just keep doing what you're doing and we'll all keep coming back for more! K xx

Try to let comments like this roll off your back.
The more followers you have, the more people there are to hate, be jealous, or envy the talent you have.

Holly - While I don't think the comment was rude, like rest of the people responding...I do think the way that you handled it shows your utmost graciouness and lovely personality. There are times when I would like to know more, also. But I don't feel "entitled" to it. A blogger has a right to share as much or as little as possible. And sometimes we aren't doing a post on a blog to be instructional, anyway. I am SO looking forward to your E-Book!! First of all-you are an artist so from what I have read and seen you kind of can whiip it together with not too much thought so to mix colours if a very natural thing for artist's to do, second of all, this blog is toadvertise your business also and yes to offer us followers the amazing eye candy. This blog would be secondary tot he business and family duties that are your priorities (I assume) therefore to post step by step may not be something you can do-I would assume from how approachable you seem that if anyone had a comment or question you'd answer them...
Sorry you were dealt a stinky poster today-hope all these others make up for it!

What a terrible thing to say to someone! You are not stingy!!!

Your blog has been a great source of inspiration to me. Whenever I'm in a thrift store, I remind myself to look past the ugliness of a piece of furniture and focus only on the shape. I learned that from your blog. I thank you for that.

Also, you have shared your techniques. What a grouchy and uncalled for email! I'm sorry!

The reason I enjoy reading your blog (and I'm sure countless others as well) is to see your latest creation. I don't expect a tutorial but I *always* receive inspiration. I agree with a lot of the comments in saying, that I think you've pretty much said how you create your beautiful pieces (in the FAQ's) and I agree with you in saying that it might be redundant to say how you completed each project when it's basically the same process each time.
Regardless, blogs are individual to each person and if you didn't want to share how you created each piece then you would have the right to do that too.

Keep up with your amazing, talented self and ignore the haters!

Hi Holly, my statement or comment to you is.. I love coming to your beautiful blog just to see what projects you have been working on or projects you feature of others. I doubt that most people expect a descriptive DIY instruction. You can truly see how many people enjoy following your blog from all the comments you have generating from this post! Keep up the wonderful work!!

I feel sad for someone that has the time and energy to write, let alone think negative thoughts like that. Your blog is my all time favourite (along with my sisters) and there is a reason why you have over 2,000 followers. Keep doing what your doing! You inspire me, that's for sure.
P.s. I find it funny how computers give some people a set of balls lol!

Oh gosh, your rude blogger should just ask her carpenter husband to tell her exactly what it is she needs to do - like she says she does - and be done with it. As she said, she doesn't need your advice.

And since she doesn't need your advice, it is perplexing that she bothered to say mean things to you.

I'm stumped.

Anyway, you put a smile of my face every day. I love to see what you do! Thanks for letting us all have a peek into your life, and at your work!

I am thankful that you have time to share your wonderful repainted furniture with us. I can only imagine how much time it takes for you to photograph & write your posts while juggling life with work, family and friends.
You are an inspiration to me... never apologize. Thanks for all that you do! ♡ Beth

Let haters be haters! That is their own bad karma! I happen to enjoy your "eye candy" & lack of how-to's. That is the name of your game & it brings me back everytime! You do great work & this is your business, creating gorgeous pieces & kindly sharing with us. A business (wo)man doesn't sell all of her secrets. No need to tell all of yours. I appreciate your kind spirit & apology, although it was completely un-needed to those of us who are always itching for a new post. Please keep your greatness coming! Be true to yourself. xoxo-Rosa

Gosh some people are rude. That really was bitchy and unnecessary and the commenter should be ashamed of her poor manners.

I adore your blog. I have read all the way back to the very first post and often share links to your projects with my friends. You SERIOUSLY rock and Wren is just adorable!

I blogged for years and loved it so much, but the nasty, bitchy, jealous comments ended up getting the better of me and I quit over a year ago now - and I still really miss it :(

I know it is easy said than done but just ignore the negativity. For every one person that thinks badly towards you there is a hundred that seriously adore you :)

I'm shocked by all the tips and info you have already revealed about your craft, considering this is your job, your business, your baby! You went through all the time, effort and struggle to master your art and that doesn't mean you're obligated to tell us anything. Too many people go through life always expecting the most from others like it's there right to take and know anything they want. It's appalling!

I'm sad you received that comment and disappointed in the one who wrote it. I'm confused anyways, if she already has the resources she needs to mimic you why say anything at all in the first place? She definitely was NOT speaking for me, I disagree completely!

Anonymous said...

Woah! That comment was so uncalled for. I certainly don't feel the same way. In fact, I read lots of blogs and yours is probably my favourite- it's genuine, it's interesting and I love seeing what you have transformed. I also like that you aren't constantly trying to sell me something like many other blogs these days. Don't listen to the haters.

Unknown said...

Erm, your running a business, not a charity. What an irratating comment to receive.

NikiNut said...

Forget that crazy lady, you are so humble in your posts it is absurd to think you do it just to show off. Maybe this commenter should get some of her own ideas and work from there, instead of demanding your creativity. Your post are concise and beautiful, there is no need to change your formula. I hope you don't let this upset you too much, I love your blog. I probably check it 3 times a day, I am somewhat addicted. Keep up the truly awesome work.

wow that comment was super-uncalled for! this is your blog - and you have EVERY right to write exactly what you want to!! you don't owe anything to anyone. i have never felt you were bragging - and i personally always love looking at your creations. besides, even if you were bragging - that's your right! if that commenter doesn't like it -DON'T READ THIS BLOG! silly silly. sorry for the negativity - keep doing what you love :) the rest of us will keep enjoying your creations.

Unknown said...

That comment was unnecessary! This is YOUR blog, to post whatever YOU want to. I appreciate every post and look foward to seeing what you've been working on! If someone wants a How-to, they can use other resources or maybe THEY should try their OWN projects and come up with their OWN How-to through trial and error like so many of us do!
Keep doing what your doing Holly! You have a great blog!

Unknown said...

Holly, you are amazing, your blog is lovely, and your furniture is exquisite. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are dozens of women emulating what you do with furniture (creating their own small businesses.) I am a huge fan of a) entrepeneurs and b) giving new life to old things, and you've started a whole movement of both, I imagine. What more is there to say? You are building a business, a brand, and inspiring others to do the same, so well done.

Beth R said...

You should apologize to her that she doesn't have the ability to be creative and just go out and TRY to do something.

And please, don't bore me with pictures of you sanding, we know what that entails, just show me what marvelous stuff you create!

Seeing what you can make happen has encouraged me, I don't need step by steps. For that, thank you!

Now if you want to come to my house and show me what you do, I'd be down with that. ;)

Holly,
This is your blog and you can do with it whatever you like. If people don't like it they won't read it! And you have a huge following so I think a lot of people, like myself, LOVE it! Some people don't think like us and need to know every single detail of every project, but that is not your issue! There is a ton of inspiration here and I think your FAQ's are great. Don't even let this negativity get to you!

Claudia said...

What the??? I think that comment was coming from a not very nice place. I have always thought you were generous with tips.

You have a business (let's not forget Ms. Commenter) and quite frankly, some things should be your secrets because they enable you to bring your touch to the pieces you make over.

I never will understand people that choose to leave inappropriate comments. If you don't like it, stop reading.

"Lack of how to's", "bragging", "stingy?? I don't get how anyone could get these feelings from your blog. I how found nothing but helpful tips and tricks from your site. And yeah, you don't always have step by step pictures and details with every single post, but I'm pretty sure you've covered all that in the FAQ's. It's pretty much the same thing with each piece of furniture...clean, sand, paint, and seal. You've inspired me in so many ways. I have several pieces that I'm wanting to paint. And I always find inspiration in the way you style things. Keep doing what you have been, I love it! And I always love hearing about and seeing new pictures of Wren.

Kelle Dame said...

No need to apologize. I think most of your followers get exactly what you are doing. I have been following for awhile now and I don't often leave comments, but I couldn't resist on this one :) If you were a bragger you wouldn't be finding furniture and painting it with mis-tints. You would be gold leafing and using extremely expensive pieces. Someone took a dump in that ladies cheerios!! We love your stuff! Please keep it coming!

Dignified Rubbish said...

Wow that was a little much...sounds very bitter to me! I thought your tip on buying miss tints was extremely helpful for those of us looking to cut costs and increase our profit when selling our painted furniture. I would have never known this little tidbit without your blog! Keep doing what you are doing...don't change a thing!

Annie-Luce said...

yes it was rude...

.... i have to admit that a couple of months ago I decided to do some projects inspired by you...

i also have to admit that sometimes i was telling myself "god, i wish there were more details of her projects!...

but you know what smart people do?

They go to the store, they buy the "not attractive" oups can paint.
They find a project
and they go all in!!!!

That's what I did, and I'm really proud of it. made some mistakes (my polyurethane turned yellow a couple of times, etc) but now i don't hesitate to take on any projects.

Now i have a full-equiped garage. Now I have projects all over the place. Now people call me for special order....

Thanks Holly for changing my life!

You seriously have nothing to apologize for! The comment that person wrote was way out of line! Maybe she shouldn't read your blog if she's that disappointed!
And who's the one bragging when she says her husband can just look at a picture and create it himself? Geesh!
I LOVE your blog! I so look forward to hearing and seeing all of your projects!

You are amazing in my books!

I agree with everyone else. You don't have to explain step by step how you do everything each time you post. It is your blog and you can do with it what you like. I personally love refinishing furniture and look to your blog to see what colors you have used and how they turned out, then I make my own choices from there. I think it takes a pretty uncreative person to make a comment like that. I love what you do, but would probably not go out and buy all the exact same colors and glazes most of the time. It is fun to take a couple cans of paint and mix them til you get someting that you love.

btw...I have never worked with glazes so I look forward to hearing about it in your e-book!

As so many have stated, it's your blog. Write what you want. Show what you want. As a blogger, I don't feel the need to defend any of the content on my site. I also don't allow my readers to dictate content (not that they'd ever ask for that control). You don't have a responsibility to teach readers your techniques. Frankly, the information for DIY projects is out there. Your site is eye candy! If someone REALLY wanted to know how to replicate something you've created for their own home, they should first thank you for the inspiration and then type "how to paint furniture" into the google search bar!

On a more positive note, it is obvious that the commenter has been inspired by your work. How lovely to think that you are motivating people to pick up those paint brushes...

Hopefully that commenter is reading the responses you've received to this post. I'm pretty sure she'll get the point that her comment was out of bounds. You are doing a great job and we are all very grateful for your blog!!

Holly,
You know I never usually post comments – but then I read this post. Whoever that lady was, she must have been having a really bad day. Now she should just admit it and send an apology your way.

You are always lovely and entertaining in your blog. There is no reason for you to feel bad at all.

You inspire everyone who comes across your blog to take their own risks and try their hand at recreating something beautiful!

If my grammar and spelling were as bad as her's, I'd be grouchy too. If you're going to insult people, you should at least be able to do it without showing the entire world your own pitiful ignorance. Hugs from NC!

Holly Austin said...

I appreciate all that you show and teach us, and I can definitely say that I have never once thought that you were trying to show off or brag. As a matter of fact, my Mom and I would love to open a place here in NC refinishing furniture and such, and if I had great business tactics I'm not sure that I'd go spilling them all over the internet for the entire world to see; what you do is your own and it is what makes you unique. You wouldn't want your neighbour to see what you do and put you out of business would you?? I think that you are helpful when it calls for it and you know what? Just keep on doing what you're doing!! I love checking in and seeing a new piece of furniture transformed on your blog. I don't comment much at all, but please know that there are lots of "silent followers" (sounds better than stalkers!) out here who love you and your work. Keep up the great work :)

Caitlin said...

Holly - I have been reading for awhile now but haven't yet commented. I absolutely love your work - every piece you do is gorgeous!

Seriously who does this person think she is?! You do not owe anyone anything, least of all an apology in regards to a comment from someone as assuming, demanding and b*tchy as this.

Clearly SHE is the one who is bragging, about her 'carpenter husband' who can tell her how to do everything... Seems like she lacks the personal creativity to look at your amazing pieces and "BE INSPIRED" to create something beautiful.

She also seems to lack the most basic of life skills - trial by error! You have graciously given plenty of tips and pointers, and if she expects more than this, she should be PAYING you. She must be kidding... honestly, does she think she owns your blog and can tell you what to post?!

As so many others have said already - you are an inspiration to us all! Don't change anything, keep it up girl! :)

Stacy said...

just wanted to jump in and echo what others have said. your blog (you) and the tone of it are completely opposite of the commenters criticism, in my experience.

in fact, seeing your work and reading your story is part of what inspired me to take the plunge and begin my own little business. we'll see where it goes!

you keep doing what you are doing, the vast majority not only glean a great deal but really enjoy coming here!

and, i have a question! what kind of sprayer do you use?

Wowzers! That is one of the snarkiest comments I have ever read and I'm sorry that they left it on your blog. I think you should simply ask her not to come back she isn't obligated to read it...the rest of us who truly enjoy your blog and all of the eye candy will be glad to surround you and look forward to reading your blog daily. Keep on painting and posting all of your lovely creations. Keep in the fun lane and let the miserable people change lanes!!

Wow. People never cease to amaze me. In good ways and in bad. Sadly, in this case, this poster was just shockingly bad (and wrong). It's your blog, your business, your family, your life and your perogative to share whatever you darn-well please. Fortuntalely for your readers, you HAVE shared in spades. I'm just sorry this poster doesn't seem to think so.
Keep up the great work, Holly! You rock!

Both my mom and I read your blog and send posts to each other. I dont think I have ever commented before, but like others, felt I needed to throw a response in here too.

I have never once thought that you needed me to show you what you do. Not only have I seen posts like that from you occasionally, and you have a FAQ section, but that isnt why I come here. I come here for your vision. It continually amazes me what you can see in the before piece of furniture that turns it into an after. You can't teach that, but you can inspire. In fact, my mom pointed out a table to me at a garage sale and mentioned you. Who knows, you might be the inspiration for our first project.
