Mini closet purge

I have been on a mission for the last two weeks to purge any and all unnecessary 'stuff' from the house. I absolutely hate holding on to things for the sake of maybe thinking I will use or need it more down the road. That day never seems to arrive. I have made at least a handful of drop offs at Goodwill with Wren's outgrown baby clothes and toys, odds and ends around the house and 2 giant contractor-sized-garbage bags with shoes and clothes I don't need to keep holding on to.

The mission is faarrrrrr from finished and I think it will be a summer long mission to get to the point we want it to be. But in the meantime I scooped the creme de la creme out of the Goodwill pile to quickly make a small closet sale post. I make a rule of only buying a handful of quality things I LOVE once or twice a year then pairing it with the trendy stuff that is so much more affordable at places like F21. The trendy stuff gets donated, the 'investment pieces' I would rather offer up to you!

As with all my closet sales, all sales are final. All prices are in Canadian dollars. Shipping is already included in the price for any address within Canada and the USA. All items are shipped ground through Canada Post, therefore do not have tracking. Please expect up to 2-3 weeks for delivery in the US due to customs. If there are any defects I do my best to disclose any and everything, but if you have any questions or want further info please email me at inthefunlane@gmail.com prior to purchasing. I will be more than happy to send more photos if needed.
Enjoy!

Close up of the two snags. I have no idea how to fix these (or if it`s possible) but it only seems to be one single thread causing the issue.

Friday

Today is the kick off to the Canada Day long weekend! I have garage sales to scope out, a lingerie bachelorette party to dance the night away at and of course lots of BBQing and fireworks thrown in the mix.

If any of these treats show up on my adventures I will be mighty excited. I doubt they will so maybe I'll whip up some of my own.

{a little more subtle nod to the holiday, Maple Walnut cake}

{and because it wouldn't be Canada Day weekend, or any good weekend for that matter, with out pancakes and maple syrup }

While we are enjoying this perfect summer weekend I want to remind everyone down in Southern Alberta that we are still thinking about them. That there is hopefully some silver lining to all this destruction.

Living Room

 photo _MG_5828_zps9093c91e.jpg

I realize after putting together the photos for this post that I didn't really take a lot of overall room shots. I also realized that I haven't shared many over all photos of how our main floor is laid out. Or at least that's how it feels to me. So if anyone is interested in getting a better feel for where all these spaces are and how they connect just call me out on it! Who knows, maybe you've been picking up everything I've been putting down and you know this place like the back of your hand.

I shared these thrifted side tables and their transformation back in May, but your haven't really gotten to see much of them in their natural habitat. They were part of your average seventies living room suite (which was all there to take in, by the way) and I usually would have walked right past them.

But I noticed the really cool handles on the drawers which caught my fancy, and then I noticed that they had a nifty bottom surface, and then I realized they were the perfect scale and height. The only issue (at that moment) was they were not even close to what I envisioned in here!

But now I think they are kind of fabulous and made for this very spot. All thanks to this little old brass drawer pull.

In the spirit of keeping it real, take a peek through my looking glass at what is still waiting to be done:
the stair case. Still.
Oy.

I need to get off the procrastination train ASAP.

Blending the old treasures I love and the mix of modern is my biggest challenge. But I feel so much more at home since we've started creeping away from the all-distressed furniture. I LOVE a piece or two of chippy old furniture, and when you sell shabby furniture for a living it is easy for it to take over, but since I've stopped painting and refurbishing furniture to sell I have really enjoyed shifting the focus back to mixing all the styles I love. Not letting one take over my house entirely. Because that really isn't 'Me', and it definitely wasn't Sean!

I found some great pillows on sale a couple weeks ago at Indigo, like this disco ball pillow for $20, as well as some nice linen pillows I am crafting up a DIY on I will share soon. The light blush pillow (which is actually darker looking to me in real life) is one of those purchases you make when you've looked everywhere. It is the first and only pillow I have found in this color (I had been hunting down a blush colored throw pillow for a month solid!) but the compromise is that this is what the other side looks like:

You can't win them all.

I need more book storage. STAT! The pile of unread books is beside my bed, and the pile of already read books is down here, piling on the floor and on top of the cabinet.

So much for my minimalist notions...

Thanks for stopping by my living room on this sunny Thursday!
