A change of season

Even though it is definitely still Summer (for today at least!) Wren and I have been gathering some pieces for her fall wardrobe. She has always been spoiled with lots of clothes from her Grandma's but all the other baby gifts we received when she was born seem to have maxed out at 18 months. Since we basically need an entire closet full of clothes, and because she definitely gives her clothing more wear and tear these days we decided to fore go the usual trips to Baby Gap and Old Navy and give thrifting a shot.

We buy all our furniture at thrift stores so why not take a peek at the clothes! I actually can't believe that I haven't even so much as browsed at the clothes until now, but I have been reformed.

Our first purchase was a green courderoy Baby Gap jacket at Salvation Army for $3.50. We thought it was just darling, but could be even sweeter so my Mom and I added some white linen ruffles to the sleeves and bottom hem for a little dash of romance. I think I might actually be addicted to altering baby clothes now too...

My favorite find was a baby gap dress we scooped up for $2. We planned on pairing it with a white long-sleeve shirt in the fall and some leggings but it is soooo hot that it will probably be getting a lot of use as-is.

Wren's favorite find? Her $4 hand-knit zebra hoodie.

I guess this is what it will feel like to actually see her with hair someday!

We got a ton of cute handmade as well as designer label baby gear and thanks to the sterilize setting on our washer I really don't have any reservations about used clothing anymore!
Once it cools down a little more I promise to have Wren model a couple other darling outfits we are working on~

How adorable are those outfits and a great idea on checking out the thrift stores since they grow out of them so quickly...or ruin them before :)

i have always been a thrift store shopper but over the last 2 or 3 years it's my main place for buying clothes. once you start you will never go back! i've found some AMAZING finds! i have also been going a little crazy with altering larger sizes that i find. I have altered some cute shirts and such using anthro as inspiration. you just never know what your going to find; i think that's my favorite part-the treasure hunting!

I have the same problem with my little guy! Come Fall, he will not have any clothes to wear! I am definitely going to try out some thrift shops. Thanks for the tip!

Welcome to the addiction of altering little girls clothing! :) I'm not one bit surprised you love doing this too! Taking something old and making it beautiful is just in some peoples DNA I think! That jacket is darling-perfect for little Wren!

I recommend checking out Craigslist and garage sales as well. I usually pick up nice pieces for $1 each.

Holly same here. Always junking for furniture but never think to go near the clothes unless I see something that grabs my attention. My all time favourite was a gorgeous camel colour leather jacket from Italy I picked up for $10, I have also got some lovely white shirts for myself recently at the car boot sales. Nothing wrong with pre-loved clothes and as you say a good wash and wella. Have a great Thursday Sandy xx

Im a clothing thrift store fanatic! Many of my favorite clothing items for myself and the kiddos have been used. It must be the price tag that makes me love them even more so :D

Am so glad you FINALLY discovered the Joys of thrifting used clothing!
For years, as one in the world of professionals, all my clothing came from Goodwill!! I wear all the designer labels.. (Liz Claiborne petites fit me perfectly!)I have beautiful leather coats,shoes/boots and purses.. bought at a fraction of retail prices..My hubs love the shirts, and ties I get for him.. not to mention the gorgeous winter sweaters..
and everything you can find at retail, always can be found at the thrift shops.. you just have to have a keen eye.. and a sense of adventure!!
warm sandy hugs,,

I love thrifting! Even now, my 9 and 12 year old boys are dressed almost exclusively in thrift store finds (and 99% of their wardrobe is filled with like-new threads with names like Gap, Hurley, Billabong, DC, Old Navy, Quiksilver, Element, Timberland and Fox). I *hate* paying full price for anything! lol

I am addicted to Thrift store shopping for myself and have bought some wonderful clothing. I get lots of great name brand stuff for a little of nothing. You just have to be willing to look and search, but those treasures are out there. I love Salvation Army, Goodwill and other thrift shops in my area. Love & blessings from NC!

i've never looked at clothes/linens until this week and found an amazing knit blanket, huge in size, for $3 at goodwill. a little bleach to tone down the bright teal color and now it rests on our guest bed as the perfect soft shade of turquiose hinted white.

i must check out the childrens clothing next time. everything was so adorable you found. then again, its on Wren, how could it not be. :)

Wow, those are great finds! I love the altering you did on the jacket..so very cute!

I get almost all of my daughter's clothes from a local consigment shop, as well as Goodwill and Value Village. Can't beat those prices and most of the time, the outfits are nearly brand new. Shoes are great too..little girl has gone from a size 5-1/2 to a size 8 just this summer, so I've been lucky to find a few pairs of brand new (still with tags on) shoes for her to use.

I hear you about skipping Baby gap. I was in there the other day trying to find some sales, but it's just to expensive for as hard as our kids are on clothes (and not lasting more than a season). You got some super cute finds! Maybe I need to go thrift shopping for Cameron!
