Evening

I was watching a movie the other day, one of our favorites: It's Complicated. I know I've chatted about my LOVE of the sets in basically any Nancy Myers movie before, but in particular I love the kitchen featured in that movie. While watching I noticed that most of the movie takes place in the evening, and the home is just stunning. It got me thinking that in the world of pinterest and blog land it is pretty rare to see the perspective of evening in most homes. Which is sad, because that is when many homes come alive!

If you stay at home like I do the kitchen is a busy place all day. It is bright, full of laughter and always has something going on.

By dusk it has already been dirtied, cleaned, organized and used. But there is a peaceful moment just before dinner.

This is the brief time when I usually have a second to reflect on the day. Wren usually has an hour to herself in her playroom or bedroom instead of napping these days and Sean is on his way home from work. Getting dinner going used to be so stressful for me, but lately it has become my own little ritual before the kitchen is abuzz with activity and family again.

There are always mid-prep requests for a snack or a taste.

Nightfall doesn't come till quite late here in the Summer, but this room faces East and is thankfully the first to fall from the direct glare of the sun. Hot days and a hot kitchen are not a fun combination.

Even before nightfall the kitchen takes on a different kind of feel. A warm, inviting, centered place. Where we catch up on the days activities and share our plans and goals for the day or week to come.

{ where we share food, memories and laughter }

Does your home have a different vibe in the evening?

Great post. I definitely think my house has a different vibe in the evening. I love the long summer days, but sometimes I look forward to the evening because there is a sense of calm when the sun starts going down.

The first night we had the house in some semblance of order after moving in (about a week) I actually made the comment that the house was absolutely a "night time house". My house transforms in the evening light and I love it! It was an unexpected surprise that I still haven't gotten over 2 1/2 years later.

Dear Holly, I feel like we need to hang out. Not only do we live in Edmonton, love Superstore but you're also digging the set in It's Complicated. I literally just threw that on last night and I adore the bakery. It's gorgeous, so light, airy and beautiful. This just made my day so much better.

Wonderful post! I agree completely... Homes take on a certain relaxed feel in the early evening that I find lacking during the height of the day. I thought I was the only one who noticed that most of the scenes in that movie, (It's Complicated) were set in early evening. I immediately realized that was one of reasons I loved it so much. That and of course, the kitchen!

I so enjoy seeing your daughter. She is the most perfect little girl I've ever seen. Her sweet pink cheeks and her smile express sheer joy. I am the mother of two sons. I will never be blessed by a daughter of my own. Please enjoy her a little extra for the mums out here like me.

Hello! Yes, at night there seems to be more comfortable!
For me, the kitchen is really the heart of the home.
My kitchen is facing east, at the end of the day is cool, but full of energy.
If possible, Shows photos of your kitchen at night.

I love your kitchen its so pretty!! I love our house in the evening just before dinner is done, we all talking and hanging out. We are in the process of updating our kitchen (just got the new counters installed) and now I enjoy being in there cleaning up etc. I even bring our sons playpen in there so he can watch me cook, clean up etc

I actually love to photograph the inside of my new homes at night and the outsides at dusk when you can see the life inside glowing through the windows. Your kitchen turned out so amazing, you seriously have be wanting to paint all my homes all shades of WHITE now! Lol

Thanks for sharing. I also love the kitchen and all the different vibes it can take on. I also love it at night when you're walking down a lovely home lined street and homes are lit up from inside with the warm glow of pretty light and I imagine all the fun that is going on inside the home's kitchen and living spaces as a happy family gathers together.

This post reminds me of Carmel. Ever been to Carmel, California to peek at the beautiful homes there? My husband and I used to love to drive along the ocean on "Ocean Drive" in quaint Carmel and see the sweet homes lit up from the inside beside the sea. *sigh* Miss that place. We used to live in CA. You have to go sometime if you've never been.
