We have a dirty little secret: our clean laundry usually does not make it back to our closets. It sits in about 7 hampers scattered through out the laundry room and our upstairs hallway until we are desperately searching for one particular piece or another and then it ends up on the floor. There is no excuse, and I have no explaination for why we dread putting away laundry so much but I could only imagine that perhaps we will clean out act up once we have a laundry room that is semi-functional. The size of the room is not the problem, in fact we are lucky to have a fairly good sized room on our main floor complete with large window and lovely new front loading washer and dryer. I think our problem has to do with the distance between the washer and dryer (um hello, aren't they supposed to be next to each other???) and the cluttered cabinetry.

Unfortunately it will probably be one of the last rooms on our to-do list to be checked off, but in the mean time here are just a few of the rooms we will be using as inspiration, the first picture in particular:

most of these photos have sat on my computer for a while and sadly I have no credit info, so please let me know if you know where they came from!!!

Oh how I wish we had a laundry room! We just have a stackable washer/dryer unit that is in a space just made for it..no extra room for anything!!! I hate folding laundry!!

Our laundry room is scary. In 5 years, we have redone every room except the powder room (next year) and laundry room. We hoped to do it this year, but I dont' see it happening. The amount of work is off-putting and we don't have a lot of time these days.

I once saw a picture of a laundry room like the third photo you posted, but there was a chandelier for a light fixture. It was such a glamorous touch to what is typically such an ordinary space.

THANK GOD! We are not alone - we do the same thing, although we mostly use the pool table with the cover on to hold the folded clean laundry instead of our closets!

Really cute ideas. When we finsh our basement the laundry room will be finshed as well. I can't wait to have a nice laundry area.

Great inspiration photos! My laundry room is the room I dump everything, so it's always a mess. Maybe this summer I can tackle the mess.

I share that dirty secret with you. I'm all for the laundry baskets as a closet idea, however dh HATES it! I don't mind. Honestly, I would need to build a bigger closet in order to keep all our clean laundry. If everything was cleaned it wouldn't fit in our closet... end of story.

Oh and those laundry rooms... dreamy!

I'll confess as well - we do the exact same thing. You're not alone! haha We did move the laundry room to the 1st floor, it was previously in the basement. But, it's a blank canvas and is on our to-do list. I have the exact same inspiration photos in my bio(love that first one!). I hope to tackle it this summer.

so funny! It is kind of like coming home from vacation and then living out of your suitcase until it is empty again. I absolutely HATE hanging clothes up!

Wow, that first picture is amazing! And to think when we buy a new house it could actually look like that because as of today we have that same washer/dryer set! Right now, the beautiful new pair is in our scary damp stone basement. Isn't it sad that I actually feel guilty that I put them down there. I feel like they are my new best friends and I can't believe that I have to put them in our "dungeon".

Oh god, we're exactly the same. Right now, sitting in front of me smack bang in the middle of the living room is an overflowing (clean) laundry basket. Things just never seem to find their way back into our wardrobe/dresser.

If I could redesign our laundry (other than making it bigger), I would put in a drying cupboard. I had one a few houses back and it was so useful in the winter months. It was basically a full length cupboard with rods and a heating duct at the bottom. It kept the laundry hidden while it's drying. I hate having clothes hanging out around the house.
