A Happy Kitchen

My sister, Torri, has been toying with the idea of giving her solid oak, dated-but-cute little kitchen a mini-overhaul. We are hoping to make it happen during a small break in her schedule in August so I have been brainstorming ideas. We already know we want to incorporate blue, but keep it fresh and happy, and maybe throw a few other colors in there. She is a single girl in her twenties so we can go in any direction she likes which should make it interesting... specially because we are going to try and do it for less than $1000.

Which needs to include counters, backsplash, sink and faucet.
And definitely paint.
And hardware.
And I'm sure a lot of things I'm forgetting.

The term 'challenge' may be an understatement for this project.

Here are a few awesome small kitchens that manage to have a ton of personality and yet seem functional. Let's hope our project turns out like one of these!

Did you see the concrete countertops recently done on Little Green Notebook in the laundry room? You should check it out.

Love the use of blue in those little kitchens. And the striped wall. How cool! Good luck with the kitchen overhaul. Sounds like fun!

Hey Holly - i don't know if you have these but they were REALLY helpful for us: The Habitat ReStores. Stuff that contractors and builders have in surplus or clients pass on they donate to Habitat for HUmanity. If H' can't use it in the stock houses they build for people they sell the building supplies for CHEAP. we got a HUGE piece of granite for our island w/ a lovely rounded edge, kitchen sink, pantry doors, etc all there for CHEAP. We're talking an 8 foot long counter top for 200. a sink for 30 and the door for FIVE dollars! it's awesome for those on major budgets! Hope you have fun w/ your sister!

You can totally be my sister & redo my kitchen.

Can't wait to see it all come together! If these inspiration pics are any indication, it's going to be happy indeed.
