Oh 12 foot Christmas Tree, where art thou?! We made a trip to Home Depot with our little elf yesterday to get some supplies to get our holidays going (our outdoor lights are finally all up and working!). Since we are kind of old school, we use the big old light bulbs outside and apparently those are pretty much impossible to find if you have to replace any.... but mission accomplished!
We REALLLLY wanted a big 12 footer but when we saw how wide the trees we had to select from were there was not a chance that anything bigger than 9 feet would work. We need to find a big tall, narrow tree if anything bigger is going than this is going to work.

We have it inside and ready to be decorated, but that is going to have to wait until Thursday night or perhaps even the weekend because we are taking a little 2 day holiday to Calgary. We plan on doing some holiday shopping, swimming at the hotel and just enjoying some general rest and relaxation.
So until then, au revoir!

Beautiful! Why don't you build some sort of base/planter to raise it up 3 feet. That would also keep Wren out of the lower boughs, too.

I can't wait to see it when you're done! I LOVE that you stuck with a real tree. It seems like I am the only person left who HAS TO have a real tree!

Loving how "full" your tree is! But I see what you mean...

Guess there aren't as many people out there who are lucky enough to have such gorgeously high ceilings!

Hit up the HomeSense at Cross Iron Mills (near Balzac) on your way back!!! Best selection I have ever seen at a Home Sense!! It was so packed, I didn't know where to look, and was admittedly a little overwhelmed.

Oh my goodness, your tree is gorgeous. Love that it is real and looks amazing in that spot. I'm with Rebecca I have to have a real tree. I'm dying to know if you do a white tree too. I love your commitment, if so. Happy Holidays. Enjoy with your little one, it makes it magical. My almost 12 year old still believes in Santa, it's something I am celebrating! Can't wait to see your tree decorated. Jen

That does look gloriously big, especially in the 2nd shot...but I see where you were hoping it'd be taller form the other angle. I love Megan's idea of making something to raise it up for you- perfect for little girls and puppies crawling around!

Have fun on your little vacation and good luck with the decorating...I'm sure we'd also love to see your outdoor lights :)

that's a nice tree! Can't wait to see it when you've got it decorated.

Have fun in Calgary. We're going to finish up all of our shopping in Edmonton, not exactly ready for it, we're going on the last shopping weekend before Christmas!

WOW! That is awesome!
And I just adore pictures of Wren. Too bad you guys aren't closer, we could have play dates- or heck, even arrange a marriage. =)

We use the big old fashioned bulbs outside too, and I couldn't find replacements at Target when I looked the other day. I'll have to check out Home Depot, because we have one bulb that's out!

That little Wren sure does know how to make a mama of one (boy) want a little baby girl. ;) I've been searching far and wide for those big vintage lights! Love them! Did you find them at Home Depot? That's hubby's employer so if they have them and I don't know about it yet, 'someone' is gonna get an earful. ;) Enjoy your time away. What a lovely idea to get away and enjoy the comforts of a hotel and shopping with the little family for a few days. You'll be missed. :)

I cannot wait to see it decorated!!!

I agree with Megan. My husband built a 1.5 foot base for our tree and the difference is night and day. Put some fabric around it to act as a treeskirt and you never even notice it. Best of all it leaves a lot more space to put presents.
