Halloween Entry

To get the front door ready for all the ghosts and ghouls we decided to switch it up a little. We have a huge container in the basement filled with wreaths, garlands, and various other spooky accessories but this year we wanted a little more "haunted house" look.

For the entry I wanted a collection of frames that were filled with a mixture vintage images. Of course Goodwill had a huge selection of cheap frames that are perfect for painting.

I also found this hand stitched cat at goodwill and thought it would be perfect once it was tea-stain aged a little.

I googled vintage freakshow posters, a skeleton and then to do the victorian silhoutte I googled a little girl silhoutte and added the bats later using microsoft paint. I then tea-stained them all to age them as well.

If you have gotten the October Country Living already then I am sure you LOVED the bats scattered across the front door on one of the homes featured just like I did. I am in the midst of doing them on the front door, but thought they would look cool flying down the stairs as well. They are incredibly easy to make, all you need are scissors and black cardstock!

Stay tuned for the front door!

This says classy Halloween all over it. LOVE! Especially that ornate frame. Sadly, I never seem to have any luck at our local thrift stores when it comes to these.

Love it. You have such great ideas.

On another note, I know you are always changing your entryway. How do you keep you walls up to par? Do you hang the pics with nails and then repair the wall every time you change the look? Or do you hang them some way that isn't permanent?

I WISH I could show you something! I was given an oak table and 6 chairs and I'm debating replacing our kitchen set with it - it needs painting or re-apolhestered or both. Oh I wish I could show you! I'm thinking it should be black and the chair seats covered with neat material. Hmmm....how would YOU do it?? Anyway....love your blog - love to see your projects and love your daughter's name - my name is ROBYN. LOL

This looks awesome! Great job......can you just replicate this at my house? Please?! ;-)

By the way, it's very, very bad news that I just saw that you sell your furniture online!
http://www.whiteberryreinvented.com/page17.html

I'm in serious trouble.

Really though, I'm very interested in that piece. Do you ship furniture and if so, what's the estimated cost for that piece to Houston, TX?

You can e-mail me at littlepinkshadetree@gmail.com if that's easier.

Thanks!

Looks great! What do you hang things with that doesn't put tons of holes in the walls?

Kristen said...

Holly, I am continually amazed at how you are changing up your entranceway!
I have to ask, how do you change the frames and wall decor so often? Do you have holes everywhere and just cover them with new frames next time, or hang things without making holes somehow??

It looks great! BTW...any news on the magazine? When will it be coming out and can you say which magazine it is yet?

Unknown said...

Thank you thank you thank you everyone!!!
To answer a few questions:
-The rug is from Urban Outfitters. Check your closest store ASAP because it was on clearance from $80 down to $10.
-Surprisingly these are the first holes I have made along the stair well! I previously leaned my big painting on the chest. But when I do leave holes and move pictures I refill with spackle, sand and touch up with paint right away. It is a bit of work but I love being able to "live in" my house, hanging and moving things as my heart desires. I do try and reuse the same spots to hang things if possible and save myself the trouble of the added work though.
It is funny because I touched up SOOOOOOO many holes from the previous owners that I actually did not hang a single thing until this june! Now I can't be stopped LOL.

Looks totally cute! Question: do you nail new holes every time and touch up/fill in the old ones? If so, does that not drive you batty?
