Faux Window Treatment

If you are looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday night, we highly suggest Ikea! We got there around 6pm, grabbed a few hot dogs, some bottled water and a few other muchies (I am a fan of the Choklad bars), then headed into the marketplace with our shopping list.
Wren's bedding was easy to pick out and as economical as I hoped. And while I didn't find a rug for the dining room, I did grab some drapes to attempt my faux window idea. The lenda style in white looked so good in the family room that I went with it again, but this time in natural so that it would be closer to the linen slipcovers on the chairs.

I originally picked up this drapery rod on clearance (at FabricLand) for $20 for the office, but it had yet to be hung so I decided to use it in here. While it was cheap, the color of the wood was WAYYY too reddish so I opted to spray paint it semi-gloss black. I then sawed it off to the correct lengths.
Photobucket
To mount it with only 2 wall brackets I drilled a hole in the rod and inserted a double ended screw to screw it in the wall.
Photobucket
It feels darker in here because it is dark and ugly outside, and I still have to hem the drapes with stitch-witchery, but I already love it!
Photobucket

I was doubtful about how it would look, but with such a high-blank wall it was worth a shot and I am SOOOO happy with the result.
Photobucket
Once we find that perfect rug, hang the mirror a few feet higher and perhaps find a small piece for below the painting on the left we will be close to done!

Extra points for anyone who noticed the table was different LOL.

Holly whow those curtains balance the whole room perfectly. I love your choice of curtain and must say that I have an appointement with Ikea this morning. Have to take my daughter to the dentist and are planning a wonder around to see what goodies I need (want ) for my home. Your dining room is coming along beautifully. Always love coming here thanks Sandy xx

Looks fantastic, Holly! I think the faux window turned out quite well!

And don't you love those Lenda drapes? My last post was on some ruffled liners for old gym baskets. I used Lenda for those, and they were awesome! I was so happy to find the Lenda drapes last year, now I cut them up and use them for everything! If they ever discontinue them, I swear I'm gonna throw a fit! ;o)

And yes...I did notice the table was different. ~ wink... ~

I really like how the faux window turned out! Especially with the black rods that mimic the black in the chandelier. And I liked the candle arrangement on the table too! I maayyyyy be stealing that idea :)

Wow, your new window treatments really warm up the room. It looks so cozy and you can't even tell it's a faux window! Your dining room is really coming together... :)

Holly,

What do you plan on doing for the other window on the side? Leave it naked or put some kind of covering on it?

I love that you have hung another curtain to balance the wall, it is funny they didnt install a window to compensate.
Im wondering if maybe hanging a picture behind the curtain, peeking out like the window, might brighten it to mimick a window's light...
Something in the lighter tones you have in the room?
I had to take two on the table, I was too fixed on the curtains!Lol

B-E-A-utiful! Oh how I miss my monthly swarays through Ikea. I now live in the middle of nowhere, and loving it, I might add, but 500miles justs seems a bit too far to travel for my "Ikea fix."
Have a Swedish meatball for me, the next time you are there!

I love the drapes. The color is perfect for your space! I think it's genius that you created a faux window on the wall. I think a full wall of curtains could also look really dramatic and full. Great job!

That screw idea is the BEST. My bedroom windows are just like that, close to the wall. What a great idea. Love the HUGE mirror. The room is coming together nicely.

hahaha. I just realized I was still looking for the faux window treatment. You did SO good I didn't even notice the curtain on the left wasn't covering a window. Way to trick me. Great job.

Looks great! I think I just got those same curtains at Ikea. They were clearancing them out at mine so I got them for $15 a piece. I really like how you did the rod coming out of the wall! Really awesome!

I'm going to be a super weirdo and let you know that I loved it as is! Actually, I like the second table best :) but I like the window open with no treatments as opposed to the faux window with both treatments or just one window treatment. Feel free to ignore me as I am not a designer but A BIG FAN OF YOURS :) Either way, it's simply gorgeous.

Holly, it all looks SO good. And I love that brilliant mirror that refelcts the sunnier side of the room, making it look bigger and almost like there's another pretty room through that wall. At least in that first photo of the whole room, I think the mirror might be prettier just where it is, and not hung higher at all (but you know what looks best there in person). The symmetry really helps, and your DIY skills are amazing. Great job on the dining room!
PS-Ever thought of a short video tour of the house? (Maybe when all the renos are finished). It would be cool to see how each room really flows together, since with stills it's kinda hard to figure out which rooms are connected or lead to one another etc. Just a random idea. Happy Week! :)

That was genius how you hung the rod for the corner window! My bedroom windows are right up to the corner with no room for a finial on the rod. Now to head to the hardware store for a couple of double sided screws. Thank you for the inspiration!

I didn't notice the table difference but it cracked me up because then I started to look for more stuff that was different. Kept me entertained for a few minutes!

Hi Holly. As a lover of all things window treatments, I think this is brilliant! Great balance, and you really have to look to notice the absence of the left window. I also love that you put the rod abutting the wall. Looks just great!
