I am sure you guys are dead tired of hearing about our looooong overdue kitchen reno. After all, I've been chatting about it for over a year now, but we are just starting to make some real decisions and setting up a plan of attack that is set to begin as soon as the snow is all melted and sunny days arrive. So it is on my brain pretty much all. the. time.

One thing we decided on yesterday was how to tackle the massive amount of damage the ceiling will be taking with the removal of several walls and the new lighting layout. It was daunting to think of tearing down all the dry wall and starting from scratch, when it hit us yesterday that we should just cover it up!

How, you ask? With beadboard! It is a staple in historic homes across the country, but it never occurred to us to add a beadboard ceiling until recently.

So here some lovely images that have my heart floating with excitement!
(and yes, I am one of those negligent bloggers who randomly fling other people's photos into a folder on my desktop and forget to cite the source... so if you know who any of the images belong to, or if they are yours I truly apologize!!!)

I am fairly certain this image is from the lovely Urban Grace Interiors~

I love the idea of a beadboard ceiling and only wish I could claim one of these photos as my own, preferrably #1 and/or #5.

Great idea! And the one you cited as UG is Anne Turner Carrol's kitchen, originally seen in Cottage Living, and also written up on UG!

Ooooooooo! I LOVE this idea and so does my husband! Do you think you'll nail, screw, glue, what? We have horse hair plaster and could really use something to cover it up...

I've never seen this done indoors. Can't wait to see your progress.

I'm dying to do a beadboard ceiling on my patio and paint it a "haint blue" but unfortunately, I do not have the means to transport it or the labor to put it up. Someday ...

Hi Holly, I'm new to you blog, and love it!
We moved into our house about 2 years ago, and the previous owners put in a lot of beadboard. It's very charming. We have it on the ceiling of our den/playroom, but I must warn you that it has cracked in between some of the joints. I live outside of NYC, so perhaps the cold winters and hot summers have had something to do with this, or the quality of beadboard that was used. In some of the areas of the house (like bathrooms), I've been able to fix the cracks w/ a caulking gun (and a little patience), but the ceiling would be a bit much to tackle. Good luck w/ your renovations!

We recently did a reno on our main floor, and did beadboard on the ceiling for the entire main level. As amazing as our kitchen is (it's my husband's business), you wouldn't believe HOW MANY people comment on the ceiling!! It is one of my favorite parts of my house.

I love the look of beadboard ceilings too and hope to add them in a few areas of my house as well. Can't wait to see how all your home improvements turn out!

Hey... that first kitchen picture, the one with the banquette, is mine! Okay... so it is just the one in my DREAMS.

I also love bead board and have it in my laundry room, with more rooms to come.

Sometimes it just takes time to think of the perfect solution to a problem. Best not to rush things.

Talk to you soon ;)

Oh my! This post is so inspirational for me right now. Just perfect! My husband stepped through my kitchen ceiling a few months ago when putting insulation in the attic. I didn't mind b/c I had been wanting to redo the kitchen ceiling lighting. There are so many recessed lights in our kitchen it looks like an airport runway upside down. I have not had the ceiling repaired yet (we just stapled some cardboard over the hole) b/c I was waiting for an inspiration on how to handle the TEXTURED ceiling repair / lighting redo, etc. BEADBOARD!!! I have beadboard in adjoining areas of the kitchen. It could be perfect. We have hardwood floors too and each of these pictures show hardwoods. Thank you!!

OOH! I love that banquette. I want to figure out how to work one into my kitchen ( too bad I have baseboard heaters). I cant afford to do a major reno but I have been thinking about painting my kitchen cabinets white and changing out my gross counter top and sink. I love all the pics. I am sure the decision making will be really hard!

Oh holly! Evernote! You need it on your computer and your mobile. It's free and you will be able to catalog and organize every web item that you love! I couldn't even start to tell you all the crazy awesome features that it has. This is going to make you sooooo happy. Here's a video link that gives an overview.

We are in the middle of installing our bead board ceiling. We had the same problem with knocked out walls and damaged ceilings. Can't wait to see it finished so we can get our wood counter tops and apron front sink. http://tiny.cc/KMHKF

Hi Holly. It's been a while since I've been able to stop by but I sure wasn't disappointed while catching up on my favorite blogs today. Love love love all the recent posts.

Dreamy Whites is such a fabulous blog. She sure does make gray so appealing.

Your living room looks absolutely beautiful. The shelves flanking the sofa are perfect! Speaking of the sofa, are the slipcovers part of it or can you tell me where you bought them iff they were purchased seperately? I have a furniture set I'd like to slipcover and yours looks like it has a great fit.

Thanks in advance. And thanks for brightening my dreary day with your lovely images. :)
