What a Lucky Mungkee

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hills Pet Nutrition for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Today's post is dedicated to our quietest and gentlest family member. You have seen him waddling about our house but I don't think we've talked much about the mystery that is Mungkee. The kind folks over at Hill's Pet Nutrition haven't forgotten our little man and they even took the time to make him feel like a star when they sent him a baggy full of surprises recently. They were awesome to send him some new food, a pile of toys and a little sony Bloggie video camera for me to help document more of our family time with him (talk about generous!! I've been attached at the wrist to this thing)

Mungkee joined our little family back in 2006 when he was about 3 and a half years old. Sadly, his owner had passed away and he and his 3 fellow pekingese siblings all went back to their breeder to find new homes. I have always loved and adored pekingese dogs (don't they just have the squishiest faces??) and being the awesome husband that he is, Sean set out on a secret mission to find me one when he came across Mungkee. In his 3 short years Mungkee had travelled across the country competing in dog shows, eventually becoming a bona fide best-in-show dog. I don't know whether is it because of all the travel and hours of grooming or if he was just born this way, but Mungkee is the single most docile and patient dog I've ever come across. Everyone who meets him instantly falls in love with his sweet personality, and it was no brainer that he would be the perfect addition to our family.

As he's gotten older he really hasn't gotten more or less perky, but recently we gave him a bit of a makeover with a major hair cut and adding some new food to his routine now that he is considered a "mature" dog. I was a little worried about changing his food, but after just a couple weeks he has a little extra spunk in his walk. He has never been one to play with dog toys, but during the last few weeks of our renos we've taken up residence at my parent's house and he has been a very popular boy with my Mom's dog, Dede, who LOVES all the goodies.

Here are just a few mini-movies of our playful boy and his shorter summer 'do (please promise me you won't laugh at our annoying/embarassing background conversations LOL)

Our dogs are our children, so I have many moments that are "the best." I would have to say that my favorite is when I get home from work and they both want to cuddle with me in the recliner for a few minutes. I love their snuggles and their sniffs and kisses. It's so comforting to have that unconditional love.

Our little girl, Izzy, has slept on our bed with us since she became fully house trained. I've always appreciated having a foot-warmer and a morning cuddle-bug! My favorite memory with Izzy though is the first morning when I woke up to find that she had nuzzled her way under the covers and was laying her head beside me on the pillow :) Not exactly the morning breath that I expected to wake up to - but perfection nonetheless!

That Mungkee is the cutest thing ever!

It's so hard to pinpoint ONE memory that I could deem my favorite concerning my childhood dogs. There are so many.

We used to camp with the dogs and swimming in the lake with them always stands out. Sneaking them food I didn't want to eat of my dinner is another :)

It's so hard to pinpoint just ONE favorite moment or memory with our dogs. So I'll write about my chidhood dogs.

Some of the ones that jump out right now are:
-swimming with them at the lake
-sneaking them vegetables off my dinner plate
-taking them for rides on the boat or car

Ahh I love them and miss them terribly. But at least we have other furbabies to love on!

I don't have a dog, but I have three cats. My favorite moment with them is when they all three hop on the bed to play with a little fishing pole toy we have. They jump at it and do backflips trying to catch it. Adorable.

My favorite moment with my Great Dane, Edison, was his second birthday when we taught him how to swim. Never one to be graceful, he had a blast splashing and sinking.

I love waking up and realizing my dog has not only stolen the covers but has squished herself as close to me as possible...ok maybe I don't love the covers part. But waking up to Sara-dog is always sweet!

It's not necessarily my favorite moment, but my Yorkie-Poo Tucker pretty much saved me when he was just a puppy! He woke me up at 4:00 in the morning one day growling, and alerted me to two people who had (quietly) broken into my apartment.. Because of him, I was able to go in the closet and call 911 and avoid what could have been an absolutely terrible situation.. I will forever be so thankful for my pup! He is the best

When I was 10 or so, my new kitten wanderes across the street to the neighbors front porch. When my 3 year old lab saw him there, he walked across the street and picked him up in his mouth to bring him home to our front porch. That has to be the sweetest thing I've ever seen. I still think about it to this day. :)

hmmm, my favorite moment?? there are too many to choose from. but just this past weekend one of our dogs went swimming on her own for the first time. she had been reluctant last summer, but took a chance and seemed to enjoy a little dog paddle. our other dog loves to get in the pool to fetch her ball, it was so much fun to watch her get in and swim around!

Whwn I was 10, my brand new 9 week old kitten wandered across the street to the neighbors front porch. When our 3 year old yellow lab noticed the kitten was gone, he looked everywhere before seeing him on the neighbors porch. He walked across the street and brought him back to our porch inhis mouth. It was one of the sweetest animal moments I have ever seen and I still think about it all the time.

I love feeding my dog Ruby in the morning. She usually will not eat if she has not gotten enough love from her mama! So we spend time petting and squeezing until she gets her fill. Then she eats.

My favorite moment with our pup Chowder was when, after two weeks of giving him IM fluids, watery food and ice cubes to nurse him through his battle with Canine Parvovirus, he was finally able to walk out of his crate, eat kibble and go outside for a real walk. He was such a trooper! This is a great giveaway!!

My Goldendoodle Juniper is the most patient loving doggy I have ever seen. I love seeing her play with the little kids in our family and especially with my 1 year old daughter.

Aww Mungkee is so cute!

My husband and I have a little white and brown longhaired Chihuahua named Lola:) She is our little princess!

I don't know if I could pick just one favorite moment with her, but some of my favorites are when she wakes up in the morning (in our bed!), she slowly and sweetly crawls over to us and wakes us up with gentle little kisses and then rolls over for a tummy rub:) We LOVE her!

I love my mixed breed, giant dog Sadie. My favorite moments with her are when she is letting my kids climb all over her while she lays still and licks their feet. She is so sweet to them and protective of us!

Sadye said...

My favorite moments were how protective my dog become over me while I recovering from major back surgery. He wouldn't move from my side and growled at EVERYONE who came near me.

Sush said...

My favorite moment as of late with our dog Holdie is when we brought a puppy home. She stayed right next to the kennel the puppy was in and every time the puppy cried she would like it and mush it and soothe it back to sleep. Holdie has never had a litter of her own but she is a good second Mom to any pup in her presence.

Having a dog is like having another child. They add so much life and fun to a house. There's nothing like the unconditional love you get from a pet.

My dachshund, Ammo, is with me 24-7. He works with me, runs errands with me, spends time on the family farm, and is my ever-lasting leg warmer at home. But I'd have to say my absolute favorite memory with him is when I took him to visit an Elementary School.
I brought Ammo (along with my trick pony) to visit a local elementary school and talk to the kids about the famous book Misty of Chincoteague (which they were reading in class). Ammo had never been infront of so many kids, and being 2 years old he was still a "novice" with his tricks.
He hammed it up for those kids, jumped through his hoop, played dead like a pro & even let every single one of those kids pet him. I felt like a proud mom who's kid brought home an A. And those kids will never forget the day my little Super-hero-cape-wearing Dachshund came to visit them!

My dog Didi is such a sweetheart. I love it when he cuddles up next to me on the couch after a "stressful" day of him laying on his back in the sun (talk about the life!), or when my husband gets home and Didi sprints around the entire house like a nut because he's so excited (every time!). They are such treasures. :)

My dog Captain has always been a mama's boy and took a VERY long time to warm up to my boyfriend (almost 6 months!). One of my favorite memories is the first day we left the house to take our morning walk and Captain refused to leave the porch until my boyfriend came out and walked with us! The two of them are best buds now and the bf and I both have to go on all the walks =)

Your Mungkee is so cute! My fav memory with my little guy is probably when he does literal somersaults when he's playing because he's so excited. Hilarious. Thanks for such a great giveaway!!

Gosh, only one moment? Oliver truly is the sweetest little dog in the world. My two favorite moments of every day are when we wake up in the morning and when I come home from work. In the morning hs is just so excited to start his day and showers so much love on me! And every day when I come home from work you'd think it was Christmas morning he is so happy to see me! Just warms my heart to see how much unconditional love one 16 lb dog can give!

Just tweeted and my favorite part of my day with my dog Reese is when I get home and I ask her what she wants. She runs to the pantry and touches her treat jar with her nose. Love that girl!!

Love this!

My dog loves her walks. Every day I make her "talk" to me- she's a husky/ malamute, so she talks instead of barking. Then she runs over to her leash and back to me where she sits, and will continue her little circle until I put the leash on her.

It is hard to decide on one favorite memory of my Dwight, but I always love watching him chase tennis balls. He is three-legged, but that does not slow him down at all. And when we are at the park, he beats all the other dogs to get the ball. I love seeing the triumph in his trot as he returns the ball to me for another throw.

My favorite moments with my pup, Cooper, were when I was on bedrest while pregnant with my son. Cooper kept me company during those long, boring days, always snuggled up right next to me...and on the rare occasions I got up, he made sure to keep my spot warm by taking it ;)

The best moment with our new schnauzer puppy, Habana, has to be when he knows we're awake, he leaps up on the bed, hopping and bounding right up to our face with his tale wagging and gives you a big wet kiss!!!! It just puts a smile on your face every morning. We love him so!

Jack Bauer is our 4 legged friend. He's a handsome 5 year old Vizsla, who I'm quite sure would have a British accent if he could speak. Last Labor Day he went missing & we were completely distraught. After posting 2,000 flyers throughout our community, and doing everything under the sun to find our baby-dog, we got him back. A week of pure misery... but the moment we found him would, hands down, be the best moment we've shared with Jack! And I think he'd have to agree.

My favorite memory with my Georgia was the first time I laid eyes on her. I got her for my 25th birthday (and my mom couldn't keep it a secret). She had Georgia for 2 days before I could go get her and it was literally killing me inside that I couldn't hold her the moment my mom told me what she had gotten me! (I had to work, boo). But when I went to PA to get her, right after work on Friday night, I got there around 10pm and she was wrapped up in a pink satin bow in wicker basket for me :)She put her paws on my face and licked my nose. It was love at first lick.

My favorite moment with our pups was when they met for the first time! We had Moose for a year before we brought Daisy home, so we were a little nervous he would go through a "spoiled-only-child" syndrome. We brought her home to meet him, he give her a 30 second look up and down, then kissed her right on the lips. Love at first sight!

Our dog, Chewy, is an active guy. He's about two years old, and we think it's half yorkie (and, we kid, half muppet). Super fluffy blonde hair, and boy does he love to be scratched on his stomach. After a long play session with his rope, he'll roll over and stick his legs straight in the air. That's our cue to get to scratchin'! He always reminds me of a teddy bear when he does that. :-)

Almost four years ago, we adopted our precious bundle of Yorkie fun and named our beauty Georgie Girl! About six months later, as we sat down for dinner during the (hot!) summer, Georgie started barking uncontrollably at the door to our laundry room. My dad checked what happened, and realized a fire had started in our laundry room! We are so thankful we brought her into our lives, because the fire was right next to our main gas line and we were able to quickly move and stop the fire from spreading due to the help of our newest, furry addition! Every moment we have had her has been a "best" moment because she was such a blessing and came at the perfect time for my family!

Aw, I have to admit I was sad to see this post.
I remember you from teh nest and have been a reader since the very start.
I have stopped reading so many blogs because they started doing sponsored posts that were not even related to their blog's content...
Please don't start blogging about dog food just because you got a sponsorship offer. Your fans love you for your decor/design/lifestyle posts!!!
I'm glad you are getting sponsorship offers but it makes me not want to read if blogs start doing lots of sponsored posts and writing things just for the money, rather than what the blog was really about in the first place.

My Westie Missy is a bundle of laughs everyday. She suffers greatly from small dog syndrome while managing to be afraid of everything. The best times with her though are when we play outside with her ball. When she wants some loving she'll nudge my foot with her nose & roll her ball to me.

We have two doggies! When our older one was just a few months old she dug out of the yard and got picked up by the dog catcher while we were in class... We looked all over for her that morning, then finally went to the pound. We had to wait until they opened we were so early. Then they walked us around the kennel... I was just SURE she wouldn't be there... And there, in the last pen, was my baby dog!!! SO glad we found her! Don't know what we'd do without them both now!

We got our dog, PJ, from a rescue group when he was 2 years old and he has been with us through many years since- through 4 children. My favorite thing about him is how patient and loving he's been with each new baby, welcoming them into the family without reservation. He's patient with exuberant toddler hugs and great at participating in the kids' games. They make obstacle courses for him and he attempts to figure them out. We also love how he burrows under his blanket and peeks out, with just his little face showing.

My favorite moment with both of my dogs is every day when I get home from work - they are so happy to see me. How can that not make anyone happy. Doesn't matter that it means dinner is right around the corner for them ;-) What's so sweet about our older dog is during the past year he has adopted a ragged little talking otter toy. We can't even remember where we picked it up, but Scooby carries him everywhere with him - to the dinner bowl, each room that he visits and to bed with him every night :)

I've lived with dogs all my life. My golden "Suzie" when I was growing up used to lay at the start of our cul de sac and wait for cars (if we were playing in it)she would jump up and let them know we were there. It was the only time she ever barked. She was amazing and I still miss her, 16yrs later!

Every moment with my dogs! One in particular was when our bichon/shih tzu Elvis went "missing" in the back yard. When I finally found him, he had weaseled his way into the garage somehow and pulled out a bag of garbage. He untied it without ripping the bag at all and got into some leftover spaghetti. It was all over his white, fuzzy face, and I couldn't help but laugh!

Here's my favorite moment with my sweet German shepherd/lab mix Albus (named after Dumbledore). We adopted him from a shelter and part of the conditions were that he be "fixed" before we could take him home. We went to the county vet to pick him up after surgery and watched him wander down the hall from the back. As soon as he saw us, he started running toward us as if he recognized us, which I think he did even though he'd only been with us for a couple of hours before that day. It was the classic shelter-dog "Yes, I get to go to my REAL HOME!!!" moment, and I tear up every time I think of it :)

Then there is Java a little Yorkie ( he is 6) that we adopted and have had for one year. He is so spunky and loves to play with toys and sleep with the kids. Aren't animals just so wonderful? Our family likes to say that our Dachshunds own us-it's true, they do! My favorite moment was the day I met Jack, out mini black and tan ball of spunk. He came into a shelter, severely malnourished and very sick. He had lost much of his fur. He had been dumped in a large wooded area in North Carolina in the middle of the winter. I immediately went to the shelter, and when they brought him out, he started to wiggle and waggle, and jump around. I couldn't believe it, it was as though he knew he belonged with us! He gave me his T-Rex arms, and I picked him up. He immediately snuggled up inside of my jacket, and never tried to get down- it was as if he was saying "take me home now!" From the moment he came home, he has owned the joint- and us!

My husband got transferred to a job in Latin America and we had to spend a year in language school before we could go. At the last minute, my husband's boss called to tell us that we were unable to bring our dog, a sweet Bichon named Zoli. We, but most importantly my 3 year old daughter, were absolutely devastated. In all of our transition, our most faithful member of our family couldn't join us until we reached our final destination. Every night, without fail, my daughter kissed a picture of Zoli and told the photo that he could come be with our family again soon and then placed the photo next to her on her pillow. After a year in language school, we arrived in our new home and my sister flew down to bring us our sweet Zoli. The moment she walked in the door my daughter yelled and had the most incredible smile I had ever seen. She stroked him and told him it wasn't her fault she had to leave him and that she would never leave him again. I don't think I could get a better moment than that. Marissa

Once, Teddy, the fox terrier was in the shop with "daddy" and wanted to watch the squirrels playing on the fence outside the window. since it was up high, he simply climbed a ladder so he could see them out of the window, six feet in the air.

Taking our boxer Kirby to the beach is the best!! He loves to swim and even puts his head under water! This year we adopted another little dog to add to our family and he fits just perfectly into our life!! LOVE our dogs!!

I know this may seem like a downer, but this is one of those times that I was so grateful to have my dog there and he knew i needed him. I had a miscarriage before my daughter and was devestated! to make matters worse, my husband was stuck out of town because of a fire. he tried his best to get home but he couldn't. my dog did not leave my side the whole time or even for days after. he knew i needed him and i was such a comfort that i will never forget. he means the world to me!

My puppy and kitty are my world! My favorite moments are at night when my pup and kitty both lay either on top of me or squished up close to cuddle. I love having their warm bodies so close when the hubby is out of town.

Pets are just the best. I don't have a dog right now but I have a sweet cat - favorite moments are probably when Winnie finds her way under the covers and snuggles up in bed between us. And it is the cutest thing ever to see her head poke out from under the covers when she decides she's had enough bed time.

My favorite memory of my dog is a general one, it's the way she always is SO excited when I get home! It's unconditional love :)

I would say that when I let them sleep in our bed which is a rare occasion, waking up in the morning to them giving my husband and I kisses is the best. How can you have a bad day after that?

I wish I had a camera moment... Our seven month old mini Aussie has this patch of grass out by a corn field that he goes full sprint to every day. We thought he was just prancing in this patch because there are many grasshoppers and locusts. Back and forth he would go, prancing and getting his nose way down under the dirt, tail wagging. Then just yesterday, out comes a mole! He would have caught it too had he not been on a leash! He was so stunned to see something come out. Of course, now he must return here everyday and will sulk if he can't enjoy his prancing time. Lmpeck88@yahoo.com. Laurie

Getting our beagle/lab mix, Tripper, was the best decision we ever made. Though her beginnings are a bit of a question mark (we rescued her from a "breeder" who ended up having questionable practices) we feel like we all lucked out when we became a family! Tripper is the sweetest, most docile dog, and so smart -- we've taught her many tricks, but my favourite is one she learned on her own. Whenever she's excited to see you, she smiles! I swear she saw us doing it and thought she should do it, too. She pulls up her lips in the sweetest, most dorky-looking way -- how can you not melt coming home to that?

Thanks for the fantastic giveaway! My dog always eats Hills, so I'd love to win! As for the favorite memory, hard to pick just one! But it was pretty hilarious watching my dog learn to swim (life vest and all!).

My Alex is so incredibly smart and sweet. He is a great dog to have around all the kids I have in and out of my place, they all love him and he loves them. He is such a part of the fabric of our family that I can't imagine choosing one story to fit in this comment, but there are several great ones. As a senior dog, he has some limitations, but he always gives it a go. He is such a good boy!

My dog, Jill, "found" me 11 1/2 years ago just after I went through a big break-up with my college boyfriend. I was heartbroken... and then she showed up at my work one morning after being abandoned. She latched onto me in an instant. Ever since, she's been my "girl". I'll never forget those first few days. She wasn't even 8 weeks old and was so tiny. It melts my heart just thinking about it!

We have two dogs, one is a lab and the other a lab/mutt. My favorite thing about them is when we are all outside playing... they are so kind and gentle with our two children. They will go where ever the children go like they are protecting them! I just love to see "the love" they share with us!

I have a golden retriever, Juniper, and I truly believe I will never be able to love another pet more! My favorite moments with her are in the mornings, when she jumps up in bed with me and cuddles. She takes her paws and wraps them around me! How can you not love that? :)

I can hardly wait come home from work to see my American bulldog, Hank, waiting for me at the door...always wagging his tail so hard that he nearly tips over, smiling that scrunchy faced smile, and more often than not, he shows me how he scattered the recyclables about the house while I was gone.

We have a house full of dogs-six to be exact. We have one, 13 3/4 yr old poodle that my sweet husband gifted me for my birthday. We had her six weeks before our first daughter was born so they have been raised together. She was a playful pup and knew how to find the barbies and little special toys our daughter played with and give them "her stamp of approval" with a few teeth marks or chewed feet. Her health is deteriorating and her attitude is not so sweet, however she still is our eldest daughters' constant companion. The other five have been rescued over the years: one golden retreiver-spitz (7yrs.); one border collie-collie (6 yrs.); one senior poodle-mix (10+) who was released when his owner was in ailing health, our younger daughter is responsible for this little man; one standard poodle puppy (9 months) that was transported by volunteers from Carolina Poodle Rescue to Dreamweaver Farms in SC this last December. She is one of five puppies in the litter that came from a bust on a breeder out of WV; and one mini poodle puppy (going on five months) that was born at CPR since another breeder had released both the mother and father and the mother was pregnant with four puppies. All of the puppies and both parents have been adopted, with us being able to adopt the last pup. We have many fun stories with all of our four legged pups and dogs. Our most recent is the new puppy, Lulu playing with the older puppy, Leilani. Leilani will take a toy and start to play with it only to offer it to Lulu and will then tease her with it running around the family room, lulu on for the chase. Leilani will release it a little so Lulu can get ahold of it and then they play tug of war. Leilani will also heard Freddy the border-collie into the house when I call them in. Poor Freddy looks around to see if he can make it to the house without Leilani grabbing his ear and pulling him in. ANother funny thing is Lulu just started cooling off after play by dunking her whole head in the water bowl and then taking her front two legs and playing splish-splash with the water until both legs are soaked. She then runs into the family room and jumps in the chair to dry off, rubbing her head and nose all around the fabric. Please don't think that I don't try and stop this mess, I do, she is just very, very quick. When Leilani is doing zoomies in the backyard she is keeping up with her while I just have to laugh. I also lost my ball player Leilani, she now will go fetch the ball only to play with Lulu, never coming back to me. I want to have fun too. Leilani and I will be going to training this month so wish us luck.

Thank you for letting me share and so appreciate the giveaway!

I'll never forget the moment when we first saw our sweet puppy's face at the SPCA! When we opened the cage door to greet him, instead of bounding forward energetically like most puppies, he slowly and softly came forward and rested his head on my knee. We knew we weren't leaving that day without him.

I have two crazy rescues that really give us a run for our money (um, literally?), but my favorite memory with them so far is the first time we took them to the dog park together. The dogs (a lab and lab/shepherd mix) are total opposites in personalities, but at the dog park they become mirror images of each other, with the same trot, arched tail - they even like to sniff all of the same things. It's fun to walk behind them and see them do their thing ... together.

Our Westie is "new to us" and has been with us for a year. It's been a very long year to get him healthy but now he's happy and is the sweetest dog in the world. One of my best moments with him came this morning when I found him curled up in my laundry basket ... laying on my laundry. He has a super comfy bed yet he chose to lay on the clothes that smell like me. Love it.

We have a Saint Bernard who is 5 years old and 180 lbs. One of my favorite things he does is try to "hide" behind me when he's scared of other (much smaller) dogs! It totally cracks us up - like a child that closes her eyes and thinks no one can see her!
Mungkee is so cute - I love that he has a little more spunk in his step these days!

My neighbors were commenting on our very, very cute new yellow lab puppy. One asked what kind of dog he was. My sweet two year-old, who had endured puppy training with me, said, "He's a wewwow wab. But my mom wikes to call him DAMN DOG."

My favourite moment was when our dog was just a little puppy. He was our first dog so when he was whimpering in his crate at night, I felt so bad so I got out a sleeping bag and slept with him next to his crate. For some reason, he'd like to go all the way down into the sleeping bag and then would have to crawl back out when it got too hot for him. He'd lay on his side, panting for a while before snuggling back in haha

My favorite memory with my pup is all the nights I have snuggled up on the couch with him watching a movie. That is, if you can get him to ever lay down. He is a 9 month old lab, and has endless energy. So after throwing the ball around the house, then an hour long walk...maybe, just maybe, he'll sit down and snuggle for a little!

What a fantastic little giveaway!
My favorite moment with my dog is actually from last week sometime. Regularly, I am home before my bf so I have the task of letting her out for her afterwork potty break and feeding, etc. I was always so jealous cause when he got home, she was always so excited to see him, whereas I was the lady who uncaged her.
Last week, I worked late and the bf called me to let me know she was in a panic, searching for me! She even looked under all the beds! When she realized I wasn't home, she set up camp at the front door, waiting for me. When I got home, I was greeted so excitedly and received a ton of hugs and kisses.
I guess I was more appreciated than I knew.

Love little Mungkee and how lucky he is to be with your family! I am a dog lover also & own a peke! And I wanted to ask you to please review carefully the ingredients in anything made by Hills. Most of the main commercial brands are full of by-products and stuff we would never DREAM of eating. Here is a review on one of their products: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=124&cat=all
I know you love your dog, so I just wanted to share the info!

Ohhh wow!!! That would be amazing to win, I would donate at least $500 of it to the SPCA or Second Chance Animal Rescue!

My favourite moment with my dog would be in the evenings, when we finally settle into the couch to relax, I lean her back in the crook of my arm (much like a baby), and she moans and grunts (like pugs so often do!), kisses my cheek and falls asleep! It's the cutest thing.

Might I add, we almost lost her a few years back to pancreatitis, and Hill's literally saved her! Their food was one of the only ones she could tolerate :)
