I'm gonna start from the top to refresh everyone's memory. Because it has taken. so. long. I wouldn't expect anyone to remember where we started, and how far we've come (and by we I am entirely referring to Sean). I know that it definitely hasn't settled in for us just yet that we can hang our clothes again instead of living out of hampers!
Welcome to our master bedroom closet circa August 2010. Not bad, right? We originally planned to extend the hardwood floors into here and perhaps beef up the organization system.
Then Sean fell down the rabbit hole one afternoon.
When he saw the possibilities behind the wall he wasted no time in ripping it down (trust me people, a little planning goes a long way! Hence the 7 month timeline this thing has taken).
We were over the moon imagining the possibilities! But after a fall through the ceiling, a LOT of time and energy spent properly beefing up the floor joyces and removing insulations we realized that there was an eensy teensy weenie chance that it just might be a little more than we bargained for.
Within a few months Sean had the new insulation in, some drywall up and the electrical altered to add 5 pot lights.
Then I had surgery, we went on holidays and life generally took over. Until the last 2 weeks!
Sean has been spending 8-10 hour days getting this thing finished over the last few weeks and it really progressed fast (hence the lack of really interesting blog material, thanks for your patience guys!).
Last weekend we finally moved all our clothes in, but we just wanted to show you where it stood before the event we like to call "the migration".
Let me introduce you to "Sean's Wall".
There's a lot of added pressure for him to keep this tidy since it is the most visible from the master bedroom but I have faith in him!
Sean is going to be doing a post talking about the beadboard ceilings, lighting, trim and basically anything else you may want to know about because he did all the work and knows all the details. So if you want him to address anything specific be sure to ask!
We still have some paint to touch up along the ceiling in this section, which I like to call my "boudoir"!
In this section of my boudoir I am working on a fun french dresser and a beautiful antique mirror that will be flanked by sconces on either side.
I also have a chair being reupholstered and slipcovered to go in the corner where Wren and her Daddy posed for me.
Already it feels like a HUGE weight has been lifted to not feel like we need to wash our sheets, floors and clothes daily (construction zones and bedrooms are a BAD combination). And the best part is the domino effect it has in freeing up our office to be decorated now that all the clothes are out of there!! I am on cloud 9 this week with all the decorating that I have to do~
Hope you like it, you were all so patient (trust me, more than I was!!).

Looks great! I can see Wren using it as a dance studio when she gets older! ;)
That's awesome! It looks great, such a nice new space for your clothing to live! :)
Holy Moly...I have closet envy. Beautiful space, you could have a party in there!
Looks AMAZING! Can't wait to see everything in it.
Your new boudior looks absolutely heavenly! I was inspired by your new use of previously wasted space, and cut a hole in our wall yesterday. I'll be building a teeny "boot cupboard" (said with a british accent) in a little useless wall-bumpout.
Fantastic job ! Oh how I wish I could find a 'lost' space behind my walk in robe. Actually I do its my sons room. Mmmm I wonder were I could move him too.

OH EM GEEEEEE!!!!! Its so gorgeous I can barely SEE STRAIGHT! You are a lucky duck to have THAT much space to decorate! Now I wanna knock down some walls....great job!!!
Holly, I am dying at all that space! Oh how I wish I had mystery space to explore and carve out a dream closet. That fantastic! Amazing job. Can't wait to see it all finished up.
Wow Holly I would be over the moon! I have always wanted one of those big round tufted ottomans in my "Dressing Room". I could totally see one of those in there!
What an amazing space. I am so envious. I can't wait to see it all finished and dressed - I'm sure you'll both do an fantastic job.
I used to have a recurring dream where I would discover a room or a staircase in my house I never knew was there - how lucky are you to actually have that happen for real?! (I also have a recurring dream about looking for a toilet but that's just a weak bladder and a heavy sleeper issue!)

Wowza! Looks amazing!!!!
Oh the possibilities! How fun! I cannot Wait for you to decorate this space! I am sure it will be a dream :)
Well done Sean! Is this the first major construction project for you? You did well!!

OMGEEEEEE! Is that for real!?!? I think it is about the size of our first apartment. Look amazing, and I love the floors you chose.
I am so JEALOUS! You have a fairy tale closet. BEAUTIFUL :)
That is amazing. I am so jealous.
Amazing! I can't wait to see it all done with the chair, dresser and mirror in there. So lucky :)
Wow! What a great closet! And I love the floors. I moved from one apartment to another...and alas, I sacrificed my huge ginormous closet for a tiny, not even walk-in closet. Alas. Serious envy right now.
oh my gosh! what an awesome find! i would just die over a closet that big!!!! :) you are one lucky girl! :)
I love it already, I can't wait to see it completely finished.
Wowie! What a great space! Especially with the hardwood floors. Great job!

What a dreamy closet! Cannot wait to see it with all your final touches! xoxo
Oh your closet is amazing, I am jealous! I want a closet like that so that I can have an "island" in the center to display accessories and a huge mirror inside! Having dressers and all hidden away in there would be great too...oh the possibilities!
Wow, what a gorgeous closet! And those dark wood floors are amazing! You guys are insanely talented to have pulled this off. I know how much work it was!
Seriously awesome....and what a great way to use unused space! And talk about a SERIOUS selling point...no woman could say no to that closet! Marissa
holy smokes, that's amazing! definitely something you would want to show the former owners so they know what they were missing out on! :)
Jill
What a great size closet? Someone could even sleep in there should they feel inclined. Looking forward to seeing how you jazz it up.
Ooooooo...I'm so jealous! Who knew what you could use a little bit of wasted space to accomplish! Way to go, Sean!! Lucky you, Holly! Can't wait to see the finished product.

OMG!I so much need this improvement!
I can't wait to see the rest of your project, your closet looks amazing!
your CLOSET is already nicer than our guest bedroom and certainly will be once all of your "furnishings" are in your boudoir! soooo, if ever i'm able to visit, i'll sleep in there. :)
it looks amazing already!
WOW it looks fantastic! You must be so excited. Not only is a place to hold clothes but you can essentially use it as a full runway for outfits! And Wren is so adorable. Enjoy the closet...doesn't organization (and more space!!) just make you happy?
WOW. Can't wait to see how you organize everything :)
This is the grown woman's version of Narnia!
Can't wait to see you add your touch.
What a girls' dream!
Wow! Your hubs did an amazing job! It looks incredible and you haven't even dressed it up yet. :) I can't wait to see what it looks like once you get a hold of it! I bet you are excited about all the space and having a nice big space to play dress up!
omg wow!! Looks amazing!!!
Beautiful! I can't wait to see your final touches and the sweet furniture that is sure to come!
Looks fabulous! So jealous!! =)
First - what an excellent surprise! Whenever we peek into the dark corners of our house all we find are spiders and bee's nests!
Second - what a fantastic job your husband did putting this room together! It looks absolutely amazing!!
Third - I can't wait to see your personal touches!
Wonderful!
JEALOUSY!!!! I LOVE it!!!! Well worth the wait!
WOW! I can't believe all that extra space was wasted! I say it's totally worth the months spent on this project!! I wouldn't even know what to do with this much closet space! So jealous!
Beautiful! Love that you found space! Here's a beadboard question...what kind of chalk do you use? We have a beadboard ceiling in the kitchen - and the seams show in the winter when the boards contract. Any suggestions?
lovely lovely lovely!
can't wait to see it all done esp. how you are organizing your clothes
Antonella
Smart hubby to have found all that extra space. What a dream room!
So jealous! And I hear you on the construction zone dust. We scraped 1800 square feet of popcorn ceilings and I'm still getting layers of dust off the floors.
WOW !!! It looks fantastic. Hats off to your husband for such a nice room. Enjoy it, as I'm sure you will.
Looking forward to seeing it full of fun things.
Stella

I am in love with this closet!! So beautiful! Love the color of the floors! And now it's SO spacious!!! You lucky lady!
I would keep that husband of yours! :) What a new, big space!
Awesome closet space. Very nice. Please ask Sean to address what was under the beadboard he put on the ceiling? I am considering doing same and wonder if any restrictions. thanks so much!
That is a HUGE closet! I'm so impressed Sean knew how to do all that himself! That looked like a big project! I bet you can't wait to get your dresser and mirror in and start hanging clothes! Way to go! It's a beautiful master closet!

What a great space, wonder why the original builders wasted so much of it? Looking forward to seeing it filled & decorated.
PS. you wrote floor joyces and I always thought it was floor joists. Have I been saying it wrong all this time or is it both?
Def worth the wait....! The space is huge --- can't wait to see all your personal touches!
Fantastic looking!
OOOOOH that looks amazing;)
Really amazing!!!
Can`t wait to see your close in it and other stuff;)

Can I tell you how lucky you are to have a handyman/Handy Man in the house? What an amazing change.
Love your blog! Would you share what paint color you used for the walls and trim?
I am SO JEALOUS of that Huge Closet! Enjoy! I love the Flooring and would like to know where you got it.
Wow, I dream of having a closet like that!!!
Congrats on the finished product! Looks great! You're so lucky to have such a great big space to work with. We have about a quarter of that space to work with for BOTH of us!! sigh...
Oh my gosh, it's amazing!! We live in the suburbs of Philly {AKA ridiculously high rent}, and I'm pretty sure your closet is the size of our entire bedroom! lol
omg your closet is bigger than my house! i love love love it!!
OH MY!!!!! It's a whole other room for crying out loud. This is amazing. I think I'm going to dig a hole in one of my walls and just extend out to my driveway. Can't wait to see the end result with your amazing furniture in it.
By the way, I did a little post and included some of your projects :-)

OMG! Holly I am positively drooling...DROOLING! You would laugh if I showed you my closet...we live in 400 sq ft. A lot of shoes have been a casualty to our space constraints, I am sad to say. I am so happy for you!!
Simply awesome! Your husband is a gem :) Enjoy your new space!!
that is amazing! when are you going to start renting sean out, my husband is so not a handy man!
All I can say is WOW! Wowee wow wow!
Oh my goodness, no wonder you're on cloud 9! How fortunate that he did go down that rabbit hole and find all that potential. One really gets the best feel for the space in the photo of wren and 1/2 of Sean, with the bedroom in the bg. You have to show us what that furnished 'boudoir' looks like with the mirror, sconces, etc. I'm so excited for you!
Thanks for sharing, have tons of fun decorating, and I'm looking forward to that post from Sean!
Oh, and since you said we could ask... My new questions for Sean's next post are:
1- Does one have to get any permits or any legal stuff worked out to build whole new rooms, or specifically to add new lighting like those pot lights.
I'd like to know more about diy lighting, we think we can do construction, but don't know as much about creating new electrical. What do you need to know?
2- Do you guys have any ideas WHY they would build a whole floor plan with square footage hidden behind a wall, unused like that? I'm just really curious why that would even be. Great find though. Thanks for letting me ask more questions :)
I'm so jealous!!! I can't wait to see what you do with the space! I think your new closet is bigger than my bedroom ;)

Wow, great job and very cute family :)
