Wren's Big Girl Bed

Our baby sleeps in a big girl bed!
Photobucket
Her room really only needed a few new pieces once her crib came out, mainly just a new bed and a night stand. Both of which I had set aside for months already, and both found in thrift stores for a combined total of less than $50.
Photobucket
The nightstand had a lot of potential, but the bed was somewhat boring.
Photobucket
Here is her new set up!
Photobucket
We decided to paint the bed a soft blue and distress it so you could see some of the beautiful wood grain details still.
Photobucket
The plaque at the top of the head board was just calling for something special so I hand painted her name on it in a soft grey.
Photobucket
The two pillow shams are from Kohl's ($9.99 or less!) and her duvet, cover and sheets all come from Ikea and totalled less than $80.
Photobucket
It was an interesting bed and I find it funny that the headboard has casters but the footboard doesn't and never did!
Photobucket
I decided to go with simple white paint on her night stand.
Photobucket
With my favorite knobs in blue.
Photobucket A ceramic crane for good luck and peace.
Photobucket
Photobucket
There are probably 50 different shades of blue in Wren's room, but I like that because it doesn't feel too baby-ish, but a little more eclectic. Her bedroom cabinet is still probably one of my all time favorite finds~
Photobucket
You may remember her shaggy raggy rug coming to pieces a few months ago due to overwashing, so I decided to keep it cheap and easy this time. A great kids room floor covering idea are these small rugs from Ikea ($2.99 each). You could stitch a few together to make one larger rug but I like to throw them helter-skelter and let wren move and play with them. At $2.99 they are definitely magic carpets in my book!
Photobucket Another recent acquisition is this vintage horse blanket. My grandparents and mom used to use it when showing horses and while it has seen better days I love the rough grey underside, holes and all!!
Photobucket
I used to use it as a cape when I was little and the bright blue/silver side is the perfect hit of drama when we need it.
Photobucket
The last 2 weeks have been a relatively easy transition from the crib.
Photobucket
Wren tells everyone about her new "bed that Dad built" and looks forward to story time every night.
Photobucket
All in, we converted Wren's room to a big girl room for just under $130!

  13. It turned out gorgeous! I love the bed and all the blues! How do you keep her from falling out the other side of the bed though? I need to do a big boy bed and really hate all the toddler beds that are out.

  14. Awww thank so much everyone! I am one proud mama and like to make things special for my Wren~

K, I knew she would be ok, and so far she has, because she didn't move much in the night. We would tuck her in and the next morning she would be in the exact same positiong LOL. But I actually throw a few pillows on the floor just to be safe!

  15. Holly,
This is absolutely gorgeous. I desperately want to paint something in my house that soft blue, but our home is a lodge-style craftsman and all of my colors are dark or neutral. So when I see someone use soft blue, I drool! I have to wipe my keyboard off quite often!!

  86. What a sweet room for Wren:) I am in the middle of redoing some things in my daughter's room and want to add her monogram to her headboard. I am trying to decide between vinyl and handpainting it. Did you use graphite paper to trace the font and then paint over it or did you freehand it? If you painted it freehand I am even more impressed! :) I also would like to know the shade of blue that you used for her bed, it is so serene looking. Thanks!
