WOW! I have been totally blown away (not to mention completely smitten) with all the amazing new bloggers this month! Has Dreamy Whites stolen your heart too? I am dying to see more of her gorgeous home and family, and am trying to convince Sean we need to steal her idea of light grey walls in the living room. She has an amazing amount of talent! And Home & Harmony is another blog that has my mind dancing with images of gorgeous mint-y kitchen islands and panelled ceilings... A huge thank you goes out to Lori at Frugal Farmhouse Design for introducing me to these ladies~
I was hoping today would be a sunny winter's day... no such luck. It is still grey and hazy, but I couldn't wait any longer to take a picture of my new favorite piece of furniture.
Here it is before, sitting a top my pile.

Like all my favorite finds it was only $15 (now that I think about it, that is kind of weird, right?). And while I kind of liked the original patina of the wood, there was some drawings on the top done by a little person not that long ago with a permanent marker, so it was destined to be painted.

I went with a light grey paint, distressed to show both the original wood as well as some white paint underneath for just the right amount of character.
Unfortunately during a recent furniture shuffle my beloved little birdie suffered an injury. But I will love him still, no matter how many pieces he is in.
This mirror replaces the black one that previous sat atop this dresser , it was from a very grainy 70's dresser. It looks and feels much fresher now!
I'm still not 100% sold on the wall color for us, so I am currently browsing through some very drool-worthy wallpapers for a fresh look this Spring.

  7. Thanks so much ladies!!

Taina, I actually custom mixed it in my "paint lab", but I highly recommend looking over at Bryn Alexandra's blog. She just shared some wonderful colors!

Suzy, I always LOVE seeing it in photos and in little snippets I take of the room, but overall I just don't feel it "matches"... I still want something dramatic though.

  10. Holly, I am totally a blog-stalker of Maria over at Dreamy Whites. She is totally making me want to put tin on a ceiling somewhere. Maybe my hallway??? Hmmmm...and her chandeliers are 2die4! I can totally relate to that pile. I have a warehouse full calling my name today, but I just can't seem to drag my butt out of the house today to go down and work. Ugh. ~mary~

  11. Beautiful! I have a drop leaf table that I love, even though it never seems to have the perfect niche in my home....but I can't part with it. It's too adorable. I'm also loving the paint behind your bed, even though you don't--it's so dramatic.

  23. Holly,

I just found your site from another blog...not sure which one. I love all the pieces you have done. Thanks for the inspiration!! I hope to decorate my bedroom with a painted 70's dresser set, and paint my kitchen and banister. Was it hard to paint your banister? Did you spray that too?

  32. I have that exact same table. It was a hand me down from my mil when we first got married. It was green at the time. We stripped and sanded about four coats of paint off of it - green, pink, white and I don't remember what else, blue I think. We left it wood and stained at that point. That was twelve years ago. It's ready for a change when it comes out of storage.

Your $15 was a steal as I saw one exactly like ours in an antique store in Kansas for $150. :)

  33. Thats funny you mentioned Dreamy Whites, I just found her blog a couple of days ago!
I love the Vanity you created. Thats such a good idea to use that mirror, there are always alot of those at goodwill but I never can think of anything cute to do with them. Sometimes it takes someone else to make the light click on! Thanks!

  35. HI Holly,
Hey thank you so much for all those wonderful things you said about ME on your blog. You made my day!!!! That was so kind of you to send your friends to have a peak at my blog. They left some very sweet comments. I really appreciate it.
I have been following your blog and love seeing your work and glimpses of your home. You are a real inspiration. I too love to paint furniture. I sometimes think I go a little overboard, but can't help myself with the paint brush. It is therapeutic!
Look forward to your next post!
    Thanks again,
    Maria

  36. I just wanted to say Lori is the reason for me starting a blog in the first place. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have even discovered this amazing world of blogging. She is a real gem.
    Take Care,

  39. Hi Holly

I was speechless when I saw your drop-leaf table. I have exactly the same one. I bought it 19 years ago,(with 4 chairs) as a "newlywed dining room set."
I still have the table which is 2 colors of blue. I have wanted to strip it and paint it , but just have not dared. Once it is spring here in Manitoba, I WILL PAINT IT!!! Thanks so much for the inspiration.

  41. I love the look of the lamp directly in front of the mirror!!!
and yes, dreamy whites' light color grey on the wall looks beautiful. I am moving to this new condo and really wanted to paint the walls a sage color but now I'm torn. I need your opinion, do you think that paniting one wall or the dining area a sage color and everything else the light grey would look good? The condo is open floor plan with light color tiles.

    thanks

  42. I love the table and I especially love it against your dark walls. The contrast is so striking! I understand the need for a bedroom to feel a certain way though. Ours looked great in pictures, but it just wasn't right, so we're starting from scratch. Yay us. I still love your room though!

  47. Oooo, I love this table used as a night stand. I have a similar table, but I'm afraid mine would be too large for the space. I may have to bring it downstairs to find out.

  48. Love this. I was so excited to see that you were doing a grey/white scheme, as that's just what my mom is planning for her guest room. She was so happy to see some wonderful inspiration.

I love to see all of your projects - so inspiring and beautiful. If only you were closer, so I could buy every single thing you create. ;)
