Library inspired hutch

Thanks to Wren taking a 2 hour nap yesterday afternoon I was able to tick off quite a few projects! One of them being this $30 Goodwill dresser. As soon as I saw that it was made of solid wood and was a really good size I knew that it had a lot of potential for our family room. I love books and since having an actual library in the house just isn't gonna happen in the near future I thought it would be fun to make this "library inspired".

Recently somebody asked me what my workshop looked like (I think it was you Kelsey). My "workshop" is really where ever my fancy should like and yesterday I set up a paint studio on our lawn (very little clean up!) since it was so nice and sunny. The color I chose was a mismatched light, warm gray I found that really felt Martha Stewart-ish.

I had to splurge to get the hardware I knew would be perfect, 5 library card pulls and 2 knobs actually cost nearly twice as much as the dresser itself!

The organization that labelled pulls offer is perfect for a well-loved and busy room like a family room.

  3. Oh. My. God. That looks amazing! Did you have to use wood filler for the holes, or did you just sand and paint?

  13. It looks incredible. Wow. How many coats of paint do you do? When I painted my desk it took one coat of primer and like 4 coats of paint and felt like I was painting forever.

  16. Looks incredible. I think your white anything just pops against the dark stained hardwoods (which makes me drool). I don't ever get things like this done when the kids are napping. Good for you! xoxo

  35. Good Morning! First time visiting your place and love the dresser project! You have actually caused a dilemma for me... I rescued a hutch from my neighbors back yard that I intended to paint black (all other pieces I have done were finished in white) to be used in my foyer. After seeing this piece, my heart is again loving the white :)

From your pictures, it looks like you used spray paint. How did you make-over this lovely dresser?

    Kindly, ldh

  38. What a beautiful redo! Do you know what color of paint you used? I've been looking for an off-white for my desk and I like this gray-ish white better than the "cream" whites I've been looking at. This is my first time at your beautiful blog--I might have to look around awhile!

  40. HiHolly,
dropped by from Kimba's blog.Absolutely love your library inspired dresser, it is just beautiful, and I love the way you
decorated the top as well. The hardware you chose was really clever. I love white furniture, in fact, I love just about anything that is white, accept white walls maybe. Have a great weekend,
    Blessings, Nellie
